Growing up, TikToker Jaiden (@youknowmejdb) was constantly having paranormal experiences. Her parents owned an antiques store, so she spent a lot of time around older buildings, furniture, and vintage items. She also had a special ability to see beyond the normal realm.
“When I was a child, I was connected to something that I don’t really understand,” said Jaiden. “I can’t really elaborate on it. I know that I have some inherited psychic stuff from my dad’s side of the family. It was just a thing that I was able to recognize at a very young age.”
She often hung out with her best friend Ellie, who lived across the street. There was nothing particularly creepy or unusual about her house, but Jaiden did sense that something was off in the basement.
One day, they were playing in the basement, pretending that they were camping. They were in a fake tent with a flashlight when they suddenly heard rustling noises in the bathroom.
It was pitch black in the basement. The only light came from their flashlight. The girls crept slowly toward the bathroom to check it out.
“It was no longer like imaginary play at the camp,” said Jaiden. “It really felt like we were in a scary, dire situation. We round the corner, and there’s a really tall man, kind of like the hat man.”
He was just standing in the bathroom. The sight was so shocking that the girls started screaming. They dropped the flashlight, ran upstairs, and tried to open the door, but it was locked for some reason. It shouldn’t have been locked because they were on the side of the door with the lock.
Moments later, Ellie’s mom opened the door and asked them what was going on. They frantically described what they had witnessed.
Jaiden had seen shadows and dark figures before, but nothing had been as crystal clear as this hat man. Ellie saw the exact same thing, so they knew they weren’t just making it up.

Ellie also had a toy that would function even when there were no batteries in it. They would place it near the bathroom to see what it would do. The toy would move weirdly, and it almost seemed like the spirit in the basement was messing with it.
They asked around the neighborhood about the ghostly activity. The neighbor who lived on the other side of Ellie’s attached home finally mentioned that there had been an electrical accident in the basement in the 1900s.
A man was killed in the accident. The neighbor had never seen the ghost, but it made sense that the man would move between the houses.
Years later, Jaiden and Ellie still remember the terrifying encounter.
