Looking for new ways to show off your creative videos? Well 3DBottles from Greensender puts Augmented Reality onto an average water bottle. Upload a video and then give someone one of these bottles with a marker and have them go oooh and ahh over it when they stick it in front of their webcam. The bottles range from $32.50 to $38.50 depending on how much you want to customize the bottle. Currently different types of bottles as well as colors are limited. And movies that play in augmented reality will only display with a Drive-In movie type animation. But more options will be coming soon. In any case – who would ever have thought of making a an average plastic bottle go hi-tech?

Isn’t this whole abuse of Augmented Reality over and done with by now with AD agencies / Marketing depts?

What would be more interesting is using AR to throw up more interesting applications when the marker is aimed at a webcam.
E.G educational videos on Conservation of Water …
    – a calculator of some sort to help people track their in-take of water/ diet / etc..

While it sounds boring…it’s up to the creative depts to come-up with better usage of AR than simply gimmick based usage of the technology
