There really is nothing outside the reach of Starbucks. Microsoft and the omnipresent coffee chain have teamed up for an Outlook plugin that will make it extremely easy to send out gift cards and set up meetings, provided that those meetings take place at one of Starbucks’ more corporeal locations.
Back when Office 2016 came out, one of our favorite features of the new release was the inclusion of add-ins. Similar to browser plugins, these third party programs were made available on a separate Office Store and tack on a little more functionality to the Office suite. Instead of having to leave those programs altogether, it’s possible to launch a Skype call from within Microsoft Word or Outlook, for example. Tiny little time savers.
In this case, a little plugin is added to Outlook that lets you attach a Starbucks eGift card to any email. Forget someone’s birthday? Give them the classic I couldn’t think of anything gift, but now even more obviously. And, it’s only a matter of time before a group of ill-fated temp workers gets these bad boys in the email as a bonus/parting gift once they’ve become expendable. We’ll be on the lookout for the reddit thread.
The add-in can also be used to schedule meetings at Starbucks locations, basically just pointing out where the closest stores to you are (as if we didn’t already know) and marking the one you choose as the meeting location. But hey, the Starbucks for Outlook add-in is absolutely free on the Office Store, and we’d be lying if we didn’t say it’s bound to come in handy at some point.
