The Bat Signal Will Be Projected in Los Angeles Tonight in Honor of Adam West

The tribute will take place tonight, and attendees are encouraged to come in their Batman best.

Adam West, the original TV Batman, sadly passed away last weekend after a brief battle with leukemia. He’ll be missed and remembered by many, including the city he called home. The city of Los Angeles will pay tribute in a big way tonight, in the best way possible — a big, bright Bat-signal to summon his biggest fans.

Tonight at 9:00 PM, the city will project the Bat-signal onto city hall in downtown Los Angeles, and fans are 100% encouraged to come dressed in full Batman gear. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has invited those fans to show up around 8:00 to get ready for the ceremony.

Alongside the ceremony, the West family is asking fans to donate to the Adam West Memorial Fund in honor of the late actor. The family has raised a little under $4,400 so far, with all donations going to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

In a tweet letting the public know about the ceremony, Mayor Garcetti referred to Adam West as the Bright Knight, a reference to the nickname for his representation of Batman — one that was lighthearted, instead of the grittier representations we’ve become used to. It’s appropriate that the brightest Batman light of all, the Bat-signal, is still most associated with his character — tonight and for years to come.
