This Deputy Saved A Woman’s Life After He Literally Lifted A Car Off Her Head

Deputy Jon Holt lives in Gloucester County, Virginia, and works for the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier this month on May 7th, Deputy Holt responded to a call about a car that had overturned, and a woman who had been inside the car was now stuck underneath it.

The car was lying on top of the woman’s head, and she could not breathe.

“The driver was laying underneath the vehicle with her head pinned by the sunroof,” the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office explained in a Facebook post.

“Seeing the trauma her child was witnessing, Deputy J. Holt went into overdrive.”

Deputy Holt’s bodycam footage was shared to social media, and in the video, you can see him quickly rush over to help the people who had been in the car.

As he approaches the car, a panicked woman tells him the woman stuck underneath the car is having trouble breathing.

Deputy Holt leans inside of the flipped-over car, pulling back the airbag to reveal a little boy.

You can then hear a little boy inside the car crying for his mom, and Deputy Holt realizes her head is stuck.

“Come here buddy,” Deputy Holt says to the little boy, who comes outside of the car to stand next to him.

Deputy Holt then leans up against the car and his bodycam footage blacks out, but you can hear him using all of his strength to literally lift the car up off the woman.

“Through sheer will and determination due to fearing the female may succumb to her circumstance in front of her panic-stricken child, Deputy J. Holt took quick action and was able to physically lift the vehicle up enough for the driver to maneuver her head out to safety,” the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office said.

“The GCSO would like to share a portion of Dep. J. Holt’s body camera video as it captured this tremendous act.”

This isn’t the first or only time Deputy Holt saved someone’s life though. Just last year he rescued 2 people from a burning house.

“Deputy J. Holt, without regard for his safety, crawled inside the smoke-filled structure and found a female just inside the residence,”  the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office wrote of that harrowing incident.

“Dep. J. Holt was able to low crawl into the residence and remove the female out of the house, by dragging her to safety.”

“Once the first victim was safely removed from the house fire, without hesitation, Dep. J. Holt reentered the structure by low crawling once again and searching for additional victims.”

“Dep. J. Holt found a second victim, later identified as a juvenile resident, about 10 to 15 feet inside the residence.”

“In great peril, Dep. J. Holt continued to try and save the juvenile despite now seeing active flames and feeling intense heat in the house. Exhausted, he was able to grab the juvenile victim by her waist and drag her out the front door to safety as well.”
