She Was Just 21 When She Was Found Dead In A Motel Room Under Mysterious Circumstances And Her Mom Is Still Fighting For Answers 4 Years Later

21-year-old Libby Caswell was intelligent, beautiful, and a wonderful mom to her son. She loved with all of her heart, and she was incredibly close to her own mom, Cindy.
She was passionate about modeling and dancing. She was a cheerleader in high school, and that’s how she met the father of her son; he was a football player.
Libby ended up getting pregnant, and the father of her son treated her horribly after that. Libby’s mom Cindy says that Libby started seeing him on and off again. He choked her, stalked her, tormented her, and wouldn’t leave her alone when she tried to leave him behind for good.
Libby’s once very bright future got derailed as she got sucked into this young man’s turbulence. A year before Libby’s death, he wound up proposing to Libby and promising to do better for her and their son.
“A few months after they got engaged and seemed to be doing good…he changed her account password, drained all the money out of the account, and took the car to run away with a girl from work,” Cindy said in a Facebook post.
“Of course, that girl left him and he ended up back in jail. Libby was devasted. That is when she had enough and wanted to get her life together for her and her son.”
“She continued to work and got a roommate to split the bills. She saved her money to get herself another car and life was going good.”
But then, the father of Libby’s son was released from jail, and he began harassing Libby. Libby revealed to Cindy that she was scared for her life, yet she never completely cut the father of her son out of her own life as she wanted so desperately to help him.

A month before Libby’s death, the father of her son choked her so badly that she completely lost consciousness and it was his own stepdad who was able to get him to stop. He also threatened to kill her at that point.
He was there that night when her life tragically ended in room number 319 at the Sports Stadium Motel, located in Independence, Missouri.
“She was found on the bathroom floor wedged between the toilet in the bathtub with her feet propped up on the side of the wall so the door can open and close,” Cindy recalled.
Libby wasn’t alone in that motel room when she died; the father of her son was there, along with his friend.
Cindy pointed out that on the last day of Libby’s life, the father of her son trashed their motel room, left the TV on full volume, and turned off the lights before getting in Libby’s car and leaving the scene.
He then “told a man in the parking lot that his wife killed herself and he needed him to call 911.” Witnesses later saw him and his friend in Libby’s car, leaving the motel.
Witnesses also told police that they heard Libby “begging for her life” in that motel room where she died, and they could hear her “being hit.”
After Cindy got her hands on the police reports, she was shocked to see that the story that the father of Libby’s son told did not match the records she held in her hands. He claimed Libby choked herself with a belt in the bathroom.
“We believe he choked her to death during an argument and then staged that scene to look like a suicide and we believe his friend helped him cover up what truly happened to her in that room that day,” Cindy explained.

Libby’s death certificate stated that her death was “undetermined” and due to an “unknown manner of asphyxiation.”
Cindy fully expected the local police department to investigate Libby’s death as a homicide, yet weeks later they promptly said she took her own life.
Cindy reached out to various experts to review Libby’s case, and they unanimously agree that Libby could not have taken her own life at all.
“It was physically impossible with the way (the father of her son) claims she did this,” Cindy pointed out.
“The evidence proves it’s impossible with measurements and her height. Her injuries are in fact those of a person that was murdered.”
Casey Gwinn, the President of Alliance for HOPE International and the former elected City Attorney of San Diego has looked into Libby’s case and believes that she was murdered.
“We reviewed everything, pro bono, and we made a very clear decision, indisputable decision, that Libby Caswell was murdered,” Casey explained in a video.
“She did not die by suicide, as was the conclusion of the Independence Missouri Police Department.”
Casey continued to say that he consulted with Vernon Geberth, one of the leading homicide experts in the world, about Libby’s case. Vernon has previously written about the 7 classic mistakes that police departments make when looking at staged homicide scenes and misinterpreting them to be suicides, and Casey believes the department that investigated Libby’s case made all of these mistakes when investigating her death.

“Reading back over the files we have, a lot of things don’t make sense,” Cindy continued.
“Why did (a friend of the father of Libby’s son) call the motel asking if the police were still there?” Cindy wondered.
“Why was (this same friend) never questioned about his involvement when he placed himself at the crime scene? What was the clear substance on her chest? Why was DNA not collected at the scene? Where is her journal that is in the crime scene photos?”
It’s been 4 years since Libby’s death, and Cindy is still fighting to get her justice. You can follow the Facebook page she created called Justice For Libby here.
