Emily planned to get married within a few months and wanted both him and Sam to bring her down the aisle as a way to represent both of her father figures and their importance to her. Unfortunately, Sam has recently been diagnosed with a motor neuron disease that has left him confined to a wheelchair and has been struggling with his ability to speak.
Recently, Emily came over to his house to discuss planning a special tribute to Sam, and she asked if he could not only help her plan it out but also help contribute to it financially.
Because of his negative relationship with Sam, he chose to refuse his daughter’s request. Hayes also refused to assist with this, but Emily was upset that her father especially would not want to help with this idea.
“I told her he had treated me poorly over the years, and I accepted she loved him. But he was not worthy of my money or that effort in my eyes,” he explained.
As one last effort, Emily asked if her father would help her do this for her sake rather than think about it as something he would be doing for Sam. Still, he declined, leaving Emily to reluctantly accept his decision.
Since this conversation, Emily’s fiancé called him, asking to set aside any issues he had with Sam and consider his daughter’s happiness. Emily is likely soon going to lose Sam, who is an important person in her life, and she wants to pay tribute to him on her special day, and this feud is leaving her stuck in the middle. Emily’s fiancé even accused him of not being a good father and said that he is clearly enjoying watching Sam suffer.
Do you think that he should agree to help with a tribute to Sam at Emily’s wedding, or do you think he is right to refuse?
