Her Boyfriend Felt Embarrassed After She Insisted On Splitting The Bill With Him At An Upscale Restaurant

A 25-year-old woman is dating a guy who is 10 years older than she is, and they have been together for 3 years.
Weirdly enough, her birthday, her boyfriend’s birthday, and the anniversary of the day they first met one another all fall on the exact same week; just days apart.
To celebrate all of their major events, she and her boyfriend agreed that she would come up with a “surprise” for his birthday this year, and he would do the same for her.
For their anniversary, they picked an upscale restaurant to eat at, and since it is expensive, they talked about splitting their bill for that evening.
The day of her birthday rolled around, which was the first event for them to celebrate together. Honestly, her birthday was a train wreck.
Although her boyfriend had promised to take that entire day off of work, he didn’t tell her the truth. As they walked around a museum, he kept ducking into a bathroom so he could work.
If that wasn’t irritating enough, the “present” her boyfriend bought for her birthday was a strawberry tart she couldn’t even eat because she has an allergy to strawberries.
Her boyfriend had got her that dessert as part of her present, and the rest of his present to her was spending time with her that day.
But wait; then at 8 p.m. her boyfriend ditched her to go watch a sports game and she was left to enjoy the rest of her birthday all by herself.

She did later confront her boyfriend about not putting any effort into her birthday, but he maintained she should “learn to be grateful” because he really did “try.”
Then it came time for her boyfriend’s birthday, and she went out of her way to make it special for him.
She ordered high-end food and wine and had it shipped to him from the country her boyfriend is from.
She then asked his grandma for some of his favorite recipes and worked for a couple of days on making dinner for him with those recipes.
Her boyfriend was thrilled, and she was still left feeling so upset about how he handled her birthday.
Finally, the last event of the week arrived, which was their anniversary dinner at the upscale restaurant they already picked out.
Although they had already talked about going in halfsies for their dinner, she was expecting her boyfriend to step up and pay all on his own in an effort to make up for how badly her birthday went.
“At the end of dinner, I asked if he still wanted to split,” she explained. “He replied, “Yeah, but it would look weird if we asked for separate checks since this is a nice place. So I’ll pay here, and you can transfer me the money afterward.”
“I honestly saw red. When the waitress came over with the bill, I said, “We’ll actually be splitting.” She asked how we wanted to split, and I said I’d pay for the wine and my food. So, in total, I paid for about 70% of the bill.”
Her boyfriend did pay for the rest of their bill, but as they exited the restaurant, he reprimanded her for embarrassing him and acting “like a spoiled brat.”
She made it clear to her boyfriend that she was still upset that he never said sorry about the mess that her birthday was.
She also called her boyfriend out for caring more that the staff of the restaurant think that he was some kind of a “big spender” than actually doing something nice for her.
“Yes, there has been a pattern of this behavior for years, but I guess I just never paid attention because I was 22 when we started dating, and I was used to four years of cheap university guys,” she added.
“But I’m starting to realize that it’s not really acceptable, and this relationship might not be the best option for me.”
Do you think it’s time for her to end things with her boyfriend?
