She Says She Feels Safe Walking Home Alone At Night Now That She Lives In Copenhagen

Too many stories have been told of women being robbed and assaulted while walking home alone at night, whether it’s a college student finishing up a late-night study session or a worker getting off their shift.
It’s like an epidemic spreading throughout our nation, yet nothing is being done about it.
Instead, we are simply instructed to either be fully aware of our surroundings and carry weapons or just not go out at all.
And when something horrible does happen, despite taking extra precautions, the women are often the ones who are blamed for not protecting themselves well enough! Will this treachery ever end?
An American TikToker @the_lykke_charm moved abroad to Copenhagen, Denmark, and she’s sharing how she no longer feels unsafe walking home alone at night now that she does not live in the U.S. anymore.
She first visited Denmark at the age of nineteen or twenty. One day, at around 3:30 in the morning, she was walking home by herself from a bar and realized that she wasn’t in fear over someone jumping out and ambushing her.
“I didn’t have my phone out ready to call 911 or 112. I didn’t have my keys out ready for self-defense if I needed it,” she said.
“I was just walking, and I wasn’t worried. And I have never not been worried when I was walking alone by myself at night in the U.S.”
That was one of the defining moments that led her to make the decision to move abroad. Of course, Denmark is not a paradise where nothing bad ever happens.

But it sure seems like a wonderland just for the simple fact that she feels safe walking home alone at night as a woman.
“Crime definitely still happens here, but I think the social safety net, relatively low poverty, and people having their needs met makes Copenhagen feel so much safer than U.S. cities I’ve lived in,” she wrote in the caption of her video.
