Everyone sets their own different boundaries in relationships, but most can agree there is one line that should never be crossed: physical violence. Depending on living situations, finances, and other factors, though, it can be difficult for some people to leave their partners following such abuse.
However, for this 40-year-old man, the decision was an instant no-brainer after his 38-year-old wife hit him the other morning.
It all began when she was getting their 8-year-old daughter ready for school and accidentally got hairspray in her eyes, causing the girl to scream.
Then, his wife started yelling back much more aggressively and blaming their daughter for "wasting time" rather than cleaning her room.
He'd been doing the dishes when he heard all the commotion. So, he tried stepping in to protect his daughter, and his wife hit him in the back.
He noted that there wasn't any blood or bruising from the blow. Nonetheless, in his eyes, it was enough to warrant him leaving.
"I've lived through emotional outbursts before, and I always convinced myself to endure, to rationalize, to forgive. But I've always told her (and myself) that physical violence would be the one line I would never accept. She crossed it today," he explained.
According to him, his wife has had other outbursts throughout their relationship. She's gotten angry at him for little things, like when their dry cleaning came back wrong or their washing machine broke, and he got called "useless" for having to hire a technician.
Hitting him, however, was different, and he didn't hesitate to tell his wife that their relationship was over. Apparently, he did propose the idea of therapy so she could work on her anger, but she turned that down.

Instead, his wife stated she didn't want to stay with him if she had to "live with conditions." Then, she left, and both he and his kids cried as she walked out.
"It feels like all the good I did in this marriage got erased in a single blow. It hurts that she won't even apologize," he said.
In fact, his wife just tried to downplay the whole situation. She argued the hit was only a "slap" and that it was intended for their daughter. Moreover, she thinks it was his fault for taking their daughter's side and getting in her way.
And what upsets him the most is that the blow wasn't a split-second action. Yes, he moved over to shield his daughter and had his back to his wife.
Yet, he watched as she raised her hand and believed she had plenty of time to rethink her decision and stop. Even so, she still opted to hit him.
That's why, despite his wife acting as if her behavior was justified, he knows deep down that he made the right choice.
"For me, and for my kids. But even if she only lives five minutes away now, it feels like an ocean," he vented.
Should there be a zero-tolerance policy for violence in relationships? Do you agree that divorcing his wife is the right move? What would you have done in his shoes?
