If you were dating someone who played mind games with you, broke up with you via text, and then wanted you back, what would you do?
This man spent the last eight months in a relationship, and everything was pretty wonderful with this girl. They never got into any big disagreements, she had no glaring red flags, and he thought they were in it for the long haul.
One day, his girlfriend dumped him with a text message, and he felt completely stunned. He didn't understand where she was coming from.
"She said she needed space and that she felt like I was too available. Whatever that means. I was gutted, honestly. I didn't eat right for like a week," he explained.
"[I] couldn't focus at work. The whole thing just knocked me on my [backside] because I really thought we had something solid."
He didn't argue with her or fight back; he just allowed her to walk away. He didn't drop by her house to see her or call her or do anything that reeked of desperation.
Several weeks went by without him hearing from her, and he began to feel more positive. He went back to working out and spending more time with his friends.
Out of the blue, she sent him a text asking if they could chat. He agreed, anticipating that she was seeking closure or felt sad about how she chose to dump him. He said he would meet up with her and hear her out.
"She told me she never wanted to break up. The whole thing was a test. She wanted to see if I'd chase her. If I'd fight for her. If I'd prove how much I loved her by refusing to let her go," he said.

"And when I didn't do any of that, she said it broke HER heart. I just sat there staring at her like are you actually hearing yourself right now?"
"She said now that I've clearly grown and gotten stronger, she wants to try again. Like she did me a favor. Like putting me through weeks of actual misery was some kind of gift."
He called her out for being incredibly manipulative, and she accused him of being overly dramatic. She thinks he should feel flattered that she still would like to be with him.
He can't understand how she could be so cruel to someone she allegedly loved. She intentionally broke his heart as a test, so he's not seeing how he should find that flattering.
It makes me irate when people play games the way his now ex-girlfriend did. Don't mess with someone's emotions in order to give them a ridiculous test.
I'm inclined to believe she's a liar and that she dumped him for another man, but it didn't work out for her. Otherwise, why would we have gone weeks without contacting him? If she was trying to test him, I think she wouldn't have let that much time elapse.
What advice do you have for him? Do you think she deserves another chance?
