It’s certainly not a cheap endeavor to fly to a new state to meet someone new, who appears promising in terms of a romantic connection.

So how would you feel if you invested your time and money into something like that, only to have the person back out two days in?

This 26-year-old man met a girl the same age as him through his friend, who also happens to be his coworker. His friend and this girl grew up with one another in Tucson, Arizona, and he and his friend now live in Ohio.

He started chatting with this girl back in October, and they spoke on the phone with one another numerous times. They constantly discussed him flying out to see her to explore whether or not there was a spark between them in real life.

Over the weekend, he was in Los Angeles. So he made the split-second decision to fly out to Tucson and spend a few more days on vacation in order to finally meet this girl. On the day prior to flying out to see her, she expressed having second thoughts.

“Says she just got fired, lives with parents, not sure she’s ready to date. I told her no pressure, I’ll come anyway and do my own thing. She asked me to update her every step of the way, boarded, landed, [and] arrived at [the] hotel,” he explained.

“Day 1, she meets me for coffee, lunch, [and] a museum. Then leaves for Frisbee practice at 7 pm. Meets me in a parking lot at 9 pm for 15 minutes, then goes home for ‘early gym.'”

On the second day of his trip, which was today, this girl told him she was not available at all to see him, because she had brunch and gelato planned, in addition to picking up her friend’s child.

However, she suggested that he extend his trip by another day so they could have a better time tomorrow. He asked her if she had anything in mind that she would like to do with him on his extra day in her city.

“She responds: ‘In a weird turn of events, I just got into a relationship like 20 minutes ago, we will have to hold off on this. I apologize for misleading you. We haven’t been seeing each other very seriously,'” he continued.

“Today was the last day of the Tucson trip. I fly out early tomorrow, but man, does it sting. I said nothing back.”

Wow, I think this chick was in a relationship for at least the whole time he was in Tucson, but it could have been since they started talking.

Sounds like she was playing the field and trying to see if someone better came along. I think his first mistake was entertaining her when they obviously would have to be in a long-distance relationship, which is tricky, but hey, you live, and you learn, right?

And the second blunder was still going to Tucson when she said she was having cold feet. That was also one glaringly redflag.

I don’t care how highly recommended someone comes by a friend; he should stick to dating within his zip code next time.

What advice do you have for him?
