This 18-year-old girl recently attended prom, and her date was a boy who doesn't attend her school but with whom she is friendly. Her friend Grace went too, and her date was a guy named Trevor, who she had been speaking to at the beginning of their school year and who goes to their school.
Grace only went with Trevor because she needed a prom date, but she stated that she didn't like Trevor at all and was not interested in a promposal.
At prom, Grace and Trevor hardly said a word to one another. They didn't take any photos together, but they did have a small chat while everyone else snapped pictures.
When prom was finished, she and her friends attended an after-party, but her date didn't go with them. Grace and Trevor were also at the after-party.
Only when Grace went home with her friends did she start talking to Trevor, and she was hurt that her own date ditched her for a different party. She spent ten minutes chatting with Trevor before going home with all of her friends.
"Once I got home, he texted me saying that he wished we were together for more time. I jokingly said, 'Ya, you should come over' (he lives really close to me), and 10 minutes later, he showed up [at] my door," she explained.
"One thing led to another, and we ended up hooking up. Meanwhile, all of my friends (Grace not included) were at my house in another room and knew about this whole situation."
"After this night, I ended up telling my closest friends and kept it to that circle for two weeks. Once [Trevor and I] continued to talk and hang out, I thought more about the situation and told Grace. Grace was completely fine and even told me she didn’t care, so I proceeded with Trevor."
Following her exchange with Grace, her best friend, Ella, totally quit talking to her out of nowhere. She tried to ask Ella what was going on, but was met with silence.

Three weeks later, Ella finally got back to her and said she doesn't like that she hooked up with Trevor, since it was a super rude thing to have done to Grace.
Ella and Grace are friends, but Ella is her best friend, and she has always supported Ella even when she doesn't do the right thing (like ghosting guys that she enjoys leading on).
She and Ella are still in a rocky place and have to talk in person, but she is wondering if Ella is right, and it was not cool of her to hook up with Grace's prom date.
"I value our friendship a lot, but am also really happy with Trevor...I do agree that Grace could have the right to be mad, but I don’t understand why Ella is not talking to me over a situation that doesn’t affect her at all," she concluded.
It is weird to me that Ella has inserted herself when this does not impact her. I'm not really sure what that's about unless she has feelings for Trevor and is keeping that under wraps.
Grace and Trevor should have gone to prom alone since they didn't exactly like one another, and that would have made everything less messy for sure. You don't need a date to attend prom; that's so outdated.
What advice do you have for her?
