Philips X53 & X55 Ultraportable Laptops

640219 01 huge Philips X53 & X55 Ultraportable LaptopsWe didn’t even know that Philips made laptops, let alone ultraportables. In the U.K., Currys is selling the Philips Ultraportable X53 for £799.99, weighing just 1.85kg (4 lbs), it has a 1.66mhz Core Duo T2050 Processor, 1GB of ram, an 80GB hard drive and 12.1 inch widescreen. Dixon’s is selling the X55 for Core Duo T2050 Processor 1.66GHz, it sports similar specs except that it has a Core Duo 2 T5500 processor, 100GB hard drive and Windows Media Center running inside. Oddly enough we can’t find a product page for either of these. Has anyone heard of these or seen them in person? The X53 looks pretty good from the one picture we found of it.

I just bought an X53 from Currys and am so far very impressed. I prefer laptops that are easily upgradeable and I was very pleased to find that not only is the processor socketed, but also that the WiFi card is mounted in a Mini PCIe slot.

I was considering a MacBook but the inclusion of an ExpressCard/54 slot and the larger (S-ATA) HDD and 1GB RAM tipped the balance. Very good value for money.

Purchased X53 recently, very pleased with it, particuarly attracted by size/weight – very easy for women to carry around unlike some of the bigger/heavier models which was one of my main considerations. USB ports upside down is only oddity, but doesn’t cause a problem. Price brilliant for what you get. Highly recommended.

Hey guys! I have one of the Philips X56 ultra portable laptops! It is a really great piece of kit! Its light, quick, handles multimedia applications well. It excellent at multitasking! The screen is crystal clear! For the money its a superp machine! Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well placed ultra portable dual core laptop! Only thing I would like to mention is that the laptop does like to overheat slightly at times. If its left on a surface such as a sofa or any other surface where cool air is at a minimum it will overheat very quickly! Other than that, its a top notch machine!

i bought an x55 philips for my daughter for christmas, it kept turning off , but i didnt really know it was doing this until my daughter said to me. she thought it was to do with the battery life. the next day it would be working again.
but now it will not go on at all. When i contacted philips to see what they could do for me, they didnt want to help and sent me to store where i bought it……. they also didnt want to help. i then found out to my amazement that the computer i bought was not a philips, but a rebadged computer made by a company in taiwan. now both companies do not want to help me sort out the problem. Neither philips or the store have the parts or know how to source the parts to fix the computer. any one else have this problem

I bought a philips X53 in 2006…a few dodgy pixels have gone (barely noticable), and the paint from the touchpad has been rubbed off with use. I’m not happy with the battery life as it only lasts an hour and a half without it being plugged in…so i can only use it for long periods of time if it’s connected to a main power source. Apart from that it’s fine and i’ve had no other problems with it…touch wood!

I have an x55 and am mostly very pleased with it. it gets very heavy use ~ 8 hours per day, although last summer I had to have a new hard drive ( about 90 pounds sterling). I would definitely buy an extra lite laptop again as I have found this one great for travelling.

I would say I get about an hour and a half out of my battery now
It used to be about four hours
