Even though the streets these days are pretty safe, one can never be to passive about security especially when you are a woman. Mace and tasers seem to be the weapons of choice to get yourself out of a sticky situation. However, now there is another creative way of getting the attention of good samaritans and shooing away a potential mugger or worse….The Ila Personal Alarm, named after the Hindu goddess of speech or voice, the device will omit a 130 decibel shriek based on a female scream. It will be available at Marks & Spencers for only £19.50. You would think such a high pitch scream would send people running towards you for help. But check out the video from the Guardian.co.uk that seems to show the device working in the complete opposite way. (Source: Hello! magazine)

I don’t want to be the grammar police, but I do believe you were looking to say emit, rather than omit.

I’ve seen the video…But surely no-one would have come running if she was just stood there grinning? I’m sure people would’ve come running if they saw someone trying to grab her bag or something. It certainly got people’s attention, they just didn’t know why on Earth she was doing it I guess.
It probably has more of a chance of being noticed than something that sounds like a car alarm.
