Move over i-Dog, there is a new happy toe tapping robotic puppy in town and it’s Wappy Dog. Wappy Dog is the latest innovation from Sega Toys. Sega Toys along with Activision will be releasing a new robotic dog along with a video game for the Nintendo DS. We got a hands on with Wappy this week and even though it was only a prototype…I already wanted to take him/her home and snuggle. Wappy interacts with both the video game and alone. You can talk to Wappy and pet Wappy and with each gesture or interaction – Wappy will respond by making noises, moving or even glowing different colored lights on its cheeks or eyes. So what is the technology behind this interaction? It’s not WiFi or some type of infrared…it’s actually sound. Yep, the beeps emitted while playing the video game will have Wappy reacting accordingly.
Even if you can’t take Wappy with you, Wappy can travel with kids virtually by transferring his/her personality into the game. The video game is a typical Nintendo DS game with the inclusion of mini-games but the fun part is that you get to actually play games with Wappy! Wack a mole was never this fun! As you wack, so does Wappy with its digital furry paw. Depending on if you win or loose, Wappy will respond accordingly. This is just one of many interactive mini-games – bringing a whole new level of interactivity into reality. You can also customize Wappy’s name. Name Wappy whatever you want and watch the robotic toy respond to it. You can also accessorize Wappy in the DS game too. Wappy ages from a puppy to an adult dog but will never die….so no need to worry about any Marley and Me moments.
Wappy is going to be a welcome addition to your home. Adults and kids are going to love interacting with it and making this a long lasting digital relationship. Wappy will be debuting in the Fall and pricing is currently TBD.
