Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Movie Review

harry potter Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Movie Review

In 2001 a boy wizard along with his two friends entered the halls of  Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to begin their magical education, and embark on some interesting adventures in a movie called Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. This movie would be the first of 8 films that would eventually earn more than a billion dollars. On July 15th, 2011, the Harry Potter movie franchise finally comes to an end, but not before we shed a few tears, witness some mind-blowing action, and experience pure on-screen joy before it signs off forever.

For fans of the Harry Potter books, the movies have been quite complementary. Never deviating too far away from the written words on the page, but in essence bringing it more to life and in a greater grandeur that would likely surpass your imagination.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2  picks up right where the first one left off with Voldemort stealing Dumbledore’s Elder Wand and Harry, Ron, and Hermione searching for the Horcruxes in an attempt to destroy Voldemort once and for all.

Everything and the kitchen sink is in this final chapter. You have stone soldiers that come to life, giant spiders, snakes, flying dragons, ghosts, and even the bare chest of Harry and Ron are thrown in for good measure. In the first hour of the 130 minute movie, it is a bit slow but quickly picks up when evil comes knocking on Hogwarts door for an epic showdown.

The film is certainly dark but the beauty of the CGI and other special effects certainly add to the story and do not hinder it.

In between the battle of good and evil,  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 also deals with heavy themes like altering your destiny and confronting death. However, there are a few lighter moments like romance that finally blooms between Ron and Hermione as well as the always entertaining Helena Bonham Carter, AKA Bellatrix Lestrange.

All the actors get a moment in the movie to shine. Whether it’s the three main stars or the sidekicks. Everyone gets their moment of glory to be remembered in the final act of the Harry Potter movies. The ending is also bittersweet as we bid adieu to our favorite wizards and witches. Ultimately good overcomes evil but not without a few losses along the way, and when the final reveal of Harry’s destiny is presented to him, there was not one dry eye in the house.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 may mean the end of this movie franchise for now, but from the cheers in the audience when the movie came to a close, this is a magical series of movies that we will soon not forget.
