Spotify has just announced a partnership with one of the world’s biggest brands – Coca-Cola. The two companies are teaming up in an effort to help spread the Spotify goodness to new audiences. And could there be a more universal brand than Coca-Cola to help make that happen?
At the moment, a Coca-Cola app for Spotify is in the middle of being developed. The app is set to launch within 4 to 6 weeks, in time for the summer Olympics. The app will be used to help Coca-Cola share music and support the brand’s mission to provide consumers universal access to music. In addition, Coca-Cola will integrate Spotify into its Facebook presence and Timeline, creating a seamless social music experience.
“Coca-Cola is the most recognized and respected brand in the world and we are proud to be their music partner,” said Daniel Ek, Founder and CEO, Spotify. “Spotify and Coca-Cola both believe that music, technology and creativity can connect people around the globe.”
Whether you’re aware of it or not, Coca-Cola has a strong history of sharing music, whether it’s from sponsoring radio shows to creating anthems for events like the Olympics, so a Coca-Cola / Spotify partnership actually makes sense. That said, today’s announcement was just an announcement, and there is surely more to come from this partnership. But putting that news aside, when asked by a member of the audience, Daniel Ek did reveal that a Spotify iPad is indeed in the works. Unfortunately, he didn’t delve into any details.
