Gone are the days of waiting patiently until non-contract carriers finally get your marquee phone of choice. The iPhone 5S and 5C are both wasting no time coming to Virgin Mobile, scheduled to arrive as soon as tomorrow.
Virgin Mobile is saying that as of October 1, Virgin stores will stock both the iPhone 5S and the less expensive, more colorful, more plastic iPhone 5C. That means the carrier of $35 monthly plans is getting the iPhone 5S and 5C pretty much right out of the gate. For reference, $35 gets you unlimited data and texting, with limited minutes. Virgin Mobile’s plans go up to $55, with the number of minutes you get increasing as you move up in price. There’s also a promotion where you can knock off $5 from your monthly payment if you make six on-time monthly payments. Virgin works on Sprint’s network.
Unfortunately, Virgin Mobile didn’t mention how much these two were actually going to cost. Might not be a surprise, because the sticker price is going to do no favors to the marketing department. The unsubsidized price of the 5S is going to be hefty for sure. Even the iPhone 5C’s unsubsidized price is going to be a far cry from what one would call ‘budget.’ But unfortunately that is the price you pay for a no contract, truly affordable prepaid plan.
