The popular messaging app WhatsApp has been a long time favorite for people who want to communicate with friends in real time. Since the app launched in February 2009, it has gained it’s own little community and millions of people worldwide to communicate with friends, family, and acquaintances. Some have even gone so far as to make extensions to the app to connect with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites.
Even today, people use WhatsApp to keep up with everyone in their lives using text, pictures, and other media. There are billions of messages, pictures, and GIFs sent out all over the world. But most people don’t realize that originally WhatsApp was intended to be a status update app, like Twitter, but when the creators realized that people were using the app to talk in real time, they quickly switched it over to a messenger app.
Now, on the 8-year anniversary of WhatsApp’s release, the creators have come out with a new status update feature. The camera was redesigned and now you can send pictures that can be personalized for the tone of the picture. With this new Status update, all you have to do is go into the tab and see your personal contact’s new status updates. Another new feature is the ability to mute and un-mute contacts at any time.
Many WhatsApp users are excited to see such a significant update come out after eight long years. Fortunately, you won’t have to wait long. This new feature is going to be available around the world for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone users very soon.
