The Week in Tech – Tesla Aids the Puerto Rico Recovery Effort, Amazon Wants the Keys to Your House, and More!

There’s a ton of tech news to get to! Maybe you didn’t get to it all, because who’s got time for that? Well, that’d be us — here are a handful of stories from the week that was that might affect you!

Amazon Key

You probably didn’t miss this one! Social media (and regular old media) caught fire after Amazon introduced Amazon Key, a service that you can use to allow Amazon delivery drivers into your home to drop off packages. The truth? Much ado about nothing. Amazon Key is actually the combination of an Amazon Cloud Cam and one of a handful of smart locks from other companies like Kwikset. There have been smart locks that let you unlock your door remotely to let family members, delivery drivers, and cleaners in at your discretion for years — Amazon is just packaging one of those locks with a camera to make sure you can keep an eye on your door if the idea makes you a little nervous. And hey, if you didn’t like the idea before, you won’t like it now and can keep on taking a hard pass.
