Our Solar System Has a Visitor, and It’s So Weird That Astronomers are Checking it for Alien Signals

We’ve got a genuine space oddity on our hands. A new object spotted in our Solar System is an asteroid, but it’s not like any of the misshapen hunks of rock astronomers are used to seeing! For more than one reason, it’s so odd that at least one group of astronomers has decided it’s worth checking out for signs of life!

They’ve even taken to calling it Oumuamua, meaning ‘messenger’ in Hawaiian. Oumuamua has already cruised past the sun, with astronomers planning to listen in on the visitor (that’s the human way) as it passes by at a safe distance of 85 times the distance between the Earth and the moon.
