Smart home devices as a whole make your life easier and help you accomplish everyday tasks. Amazon Alexa hit the market fairly recently, and it’s certainly one of my favorite pieces of smart home tech. From helping to solve a murder, to achieving some super cool skills, to potentially being your doctor; the possibilities with Alexa are endless.
What happens though when Alexa starts scaring you? Here are some of the creepiest things this smart home device has said and done to users in their own homes.
Well That Was Evil
Reddit user Purplociraptor:
“I was trying to turn off some lights and they kept turning back on. After the third request, Alexa stopped responding and instead did an evil laugh. The laugh wasn’t in the Alexa voice. It sounded like a real person. My wife was there when it happened and she is the only person who can drop-in. I still get chills.”
Who The Heck Is David?
Reddit user thirtytwoounces:
“Just last night I was woken up by Alexa at 3am talking about someone named David. Thought I was talking in my sleep but there’s no prompts after I set my alarm that evening.
Creeped me the Hell out.”
Alexa Has The Local Lowdown
Reddit user HeyItsCamo:
“This creepy thing happened last night. We got home and, totally unprompted, our Amazon Echo/Alexa started talking. And then I realized it was listing off local cemeteries and funeral homes??? I’d rather it laugh at me tbh.”
She’s Keeping Count
Reddit user ambern115:
“My mom and I were working on stuff quietly, in a quiet house, when Alexa spontaneously turned on and told us the total number of people that have died in history. Spooky.”
Reddit user mariners246:
“I just had a weird experience I didn’t even say her name and she was telling me a story about a girl on a boat who drowned to death and her light wasn’t even on.”
Never Stay Home Alone
Reddit user Gamur:
“In the past six months I’ve had a handful of strange occurrences with the Echo doing things when no one was in the room. The app showed no commands or recordings. It scared the hell out of my wife by playing Halloween sounds late one night when she was alone.”
What Is It With These Laughs?
Reddit user jtam01:
“the alarm came on this morning (everyday at 7am) however we had the flu and was miserable. I told alexa to turn off the alarm and upon the second request she gave us the most chilling witch-like laugh. I immediately jumped out of my bed as I’ve never heard such a laugh before.
It scared the wife and my 5 year old so badly that we unplugged her. I checked for all comments on google and couldn’t find a similar phenomenon. Throughout the day we would request for Alexa to laugh and none of the wav. files are the same as the first one that we experienced.”
