Maybe don’t read this without keeping the lights on, because most of these stories will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up for sure.

The Man In The Backyard

“I’ve had few incidents myself. Something touching me or just a couple of weeks ago something saying my partner and myself name in our ears one night.”

“The freakiest thing I’ve heard is from my mum though. When she was younger she was living with her best friend in a 2 story house that was sectioned off into two living spaces. They lived upstairs and an old lady lived downstairs.”

“They said that from the beginning everything just felt off. Anyway, their key cards kept going missing every few weeks.”

“They would get new ones and the same thing happened. They said every night at around 1 am if they looked out the windows into the back yard there was this man all in black with this huge wide-brimmed hat on. He would just stand there and stare up at them and then disappear.”

“After 6 months they both decided to move out. They went back to make sure they had all of their stuff and opened one of the draws and there were all the lost cards. That night someone broke into the house and robbed and killed the old lady. My mum thinks the ghost or whatever it was was trying to get them out of there.”

The Figure In Her Bedroom

“I was about 10 years old and I had just moved into a new room in the house. I was super happy to have a bigger room, but I had always avoided sleeping in it when it was a playroom for some reason. The first night I found out why.”

“As I lay in bed that first night unable to fall asleep, I began to see some sort of figure standing in the corner of the room right near the light switch. It was a very vaguely humanoid shape, but that’s all I could make out. I stared at it all night until I was finally exhausted enough to fall asleep.”

“Over time I kept seeing the figure, always standing in the same spot, unmoving. As time would go on the figure became more defined. After about 3 years of seeing this figure almost nightly in my room, I was able to see the figure clearly. She had a feminine figure but was very tall. She had shoulder-length hair that was straight and fell over her face.”

“She had abnormally long arms that reached down to her knees. Her fingers were long and sharp, almost as if they were blades, and they reached down to the floor. She had no color to her, just a mass of pure darkness.”

“Most nights she would be staring into the corner. These nights I felt fine, I felt no bad emotions coming from her at all. Some nights she would be looking at me, but I could not see her eyes. These nights I would feel uneasy and struggle to sleep, but nothing really scary ever happened. When I was about 16 was when things got actually scary and borderline violent.”

“One night when she was facing me, I caught a glimpse of her eyes. I froze up completely. Her eyes were piercing and pure blood red. What I felt that night was pure hatred and malice towards me. This was the first time since she started appearing where I couldn’t sleep until I passed out from exhaustion. She didn’t move at all thankfully.”

“After that night things changed. The shelf in her corner would always have things moved around. Sometimes she would wake me by throwing things from that shelf on the ground. Eventually, she even tried throwing things directly at me, but she never left her corner.”

“One night when I was 17 I saw her move for the first time. It was one of the bad nights where she would throw things at me. I woke up to a book hitting the wall dangerously close to me. I immediately looked to where she would stand and I saw her slowly but surely lifting her spindly arm to point at me with her blade-like fingers.”

“The emotions I felt in that moment were all over the place. Fear, anger, sadness, malice, and all sorts of negativity. It overwhelmed me to the point of passing out. When I woke up after that it was still dark, and the negativity was just as intense. That’s when I noticed she had moved from the corner entirely. She was standing above me at the side of my bed. I tried everything from screaming to running away to punching at her but I could not move. All I could manage to do was cry. I don’t remember how I got out of that situation.”

“The next week, I slept on the couch in the living room. I tried to go back to sleep in my room after a week, she was still there. She never got that intense again after that night. Eventually, I went away to college, but when I came back home for breaks she was no longer there. I have not seen her since I turned 18.”

Mimi

“I have a friend, let’s call her Melissa. Mutual friends of ours have always told me that she’s haunted. Not her house, not a mysterious urn she keeps or something – her. I’ve heard stories from her boyfriend about times that he’s stood outside ringing her doorbell and knocking for an hour because she’s trained herself to just ignore it.”

“I was hanging out with her on her bed, and though I honestly can’t remember what we were doing, it wasn’t anything naughty. Her back was to me, and she was laying on her side. I was on my back staring up at the ceiling. I was closest to her bedroom door, which was closed. It was just the two of us in the entire house.”

“Suddenly, movement in my peripheral vision caught my eye, and I see a shadow silently creep along outside the door, blocking out the hallway light coming in from the bottom. I very slowly turned my head to look at Melissa, and she hasn’t moved. Her back was still to me so she couldn’t see what I was looking at. I look back at the shadow and sort of tilt my head back and forth, thinking it’s a reflection or some weird angle that’s playing games on my eyes. Nope, this shadow is actually creeping along outside the door. When it gets a little more than halfway, Melissa out of nowhere suddenly screams out, “Mimi! Go. Away.

“I almost snapped my neck to look at Melissa because she scared the absolute hell out of me since I thought she might have been napping. And she still had her back to me. I look back towards the door and the shadow was already gone. I asked her what the hell was going on and she simply replied, “Just… just don’t worry about it.” And she drifts back into her nap.”

Yosemite

“For my brother’s bachelor party/camping trip, a group of his friends got a cabin in Yosemite to stay in for three days. During my first night there, I noticed something odd; in the room where my brother and I were staying, as soon as we got in bed (pretty late, well after sundown) the ceiling started creaking really hard as if someone were walking around on it.”

“I dismissed this as thermal contraction from the cold or animals walking around on the roof and went to sleep. But by the third night, it had become clear to me that this was not something with mundane explanations. That night, I went to bed early, while the guys were still up playing games and drinking, and the creaking noises started up as if on cue, and I ignored them as I usually did, but then one of the decorative bronze tiles on the wall started tapping and grinding on the wall.”

“I simply had no rational explanation for that; thermal expansion and all the other mundane explanations could not explain that. But I was tired, so I turned in bed and tried really hard to ignore it, and then I felt something grab my forearm.”

“I quietly said “Nope!”, not wanting to deal with some restless ghost, and within a few seconds, I could hear the ceiling of the room down the hall creaking.”

The Good Idea

“My grandad used to live in a cottage which had something in it. Cliche things would happen, the piano would play random keys at night, the decorative plates would move, the cat would hiss randomly at the same spots in the house, etc., etc.”

“The strangest thing was a door in-between the master bedroom and the small box room off that (my room whenever I stayed there). For some reason, the door in-between the two rooms would always be open in the morning. Now, my grandad and Grandma were quite private people and liked to have that door shut when I would stay.”

“My grandad would always tell me off for opening it in the night, even though I swear I hadn’t. So one night we talked about it and I suggested putting something in Infront of the door so it couldn’t open easily. Great! Good idea.”

“So my grandad took some books and stacked them Infront of the door so it couldn’t open easily, or not without making a lot of noise anyway, said goodnight to me, and off to bed we went.”

“Next morning, the books are still stood up, but the doors open. We were obviously freaked out. Next night grandad did the same, books in Infront of the door, off to bed. In the morning, all of the books were knocked over, some even in different rooms of the house and some in the shed at the end of the garden 50metres away.”

“After my grandparents had moved out, they found some records in a local church about the house. Apparently, a girl had been pushed down the stairs by her mother and died. They believe this is what was causing things to happen. The husband of the couple that moved in after them had a heart attack 3 weeks after moving in after being supposedly happy and healthy.”
