She’s Pretty Sure That Her Husband Is Getting Way Too Close To One Of His Female Friends And It’s Dividing Their Family
A woman is married to her husband, who is in his 40s, and he’s the kind of guy who’s super outgoing.
He’s likable and personable, and it’s easy for him to get others to enjoy being around him because of who he is.
Her mother-in-law helps victims of domestic abuse, and through that program, her mother-in-law recently met a girl named Penny, who is in her 20s.
Penny not only got help from the program her mother-in-law works with; Penny then started working at the place where her mother-in-law does.
“My mother-in-law does not drive, so my husband drives her to work every day since both her house and her job are on the way to where he works,” she explained.
“Penny lives down the street from my mother-in-law and also does not drive, so my mother-in-law volunteered for my husband to drive her to work as well, since Penny just walks to my MIL’s house, and he picks both of them up from there, my MIL figured it was no extra hassle.”
“I don’t know Penny’s exact situation, other than she has severe PTSD. She’s a very nice girl (…she’s just very small and shy and quiet, which makes her seem a lot younger), but she doesn’t open up to people easily.”
Penny is quite comfortable around her husband, as she does see him every day, though Penny doesn’t much care for her.
Anytime Penny is having a conversation with her husband, she laughs and speaks a lot, but if she enters the conversation, Penny stops speaking.

This always leaves her feeling, well, weird and like she’s an “unwanted third wheel” between her husband and Penny.
But that’s not her only bone to pick with Penny.
Her husband does not just drive Penny back and forth from work; he also offers to take Penny and her little boy to different activities.
Aside from this, her mother-in-law always signs herself up to go along too, as she enjoys getting to do things with Penny and Penny’s son.
The topic of children really hits home for her, as she and her husband tried hard to have children, but it just wasn’t in the cards for them.
Even after spending $20,000 on IVF, they still could not get pregnant, so it’s understandable that she’s sensitive about her mother-in-law being so eager to spend time with Penny and Penny’s son.
All of her feelings towards Penny just boiled over last weekend at a family picnic on the lake. Not only did her parents come, but her husband’s family was in attendance too that weekend.
She was not happy that her husband stuck by Penny’s side throughout the entire family picnic, and she did try to discuss it with him later on, yet he brushed it off.
Her husband insisted he could not leave Penny alone that day because her ex had gotten a hold of her new number and was upsetting her.
“My mother happened to overhear him saying this and made a comment that if she didn’t feel safe, going to a picnic at a public lake wasn’t a good idea, and she should probably call law enforcement,” she said.
“My husband, who usually has a good relationship with my mother, just kind of glared at her and then walked away, and then spent most of the rest of the picnic with Penny.”
“After the picnic, we had planned to go back to my mother’s house to celebrate all of the July birthdays in the family (My father, MIL, husband), and I guess my husband had mentioned this to her as we were leaving Penny went to come with us, and my mother stopped her and said that the get together was strictly for family.”
Penny was hurt by her own mom’s comment, and her husband stepped in to say he was going to be giving Penny a ride home before heading over for the rest of the festivities.
Her husband was furious as he packed Penny into the car and took off.
She caught a ride with her mom, and during their car ride, her mom pointed out that she knew she had been mean to Penny, but she was upset that Penny was getting so cozy with her husband.
“When he got back, my husband and his mother both went ballistic, saying that my mother’s rude comment had brought Penny to tears and that she could use a family support system right now,” she continued.
“My mother said that my husband already had a wife that he should be worried about, and that’s when my husband turned on me and asked if I agreed with my mother and what she had done.”
“I told him I did think all of the time that he and Penny spent together at the picnic was over the top and I thought he had to have better boundaries with her and that yes, I did think stopping her coming to our FAMILY get-together was a good idea.”
“My husband says I’m heartless and cruel and is calling my mother worse. I know what my mother said was rude, but I think it was necessary.”
She’s left wondering how she can smooth things over, as she isn’t happy that her husband is so angry. At the same time, she doesn’t feel it’s right to overlook Penny spending so much time with her husband.
