Saturday Morning Cartoons Or Sleepovers? People Reveal What They Miss The Most About Childhood
Looking forward to growing up is a universal experience for most children. After all, at the age of sixteen, most people are able to get their permit, then license. At eighteen, you can buy a lottery ticket and technically move out on your own. And by twenty-one, you can indulge in alcohol and get into any nightlife event.
However, once most people turn twenty-one, they realize that “adulting” is not all it’s cracked up to be. You have to deal with rent, or a mortgage, taxes, retirement plans, health insurance, and the list goes on and on.
So, what do most people do? They reminisce about childhood and what they miss most. And if you want to join the nostalgia party, a recent post on Reddit prompted tons of comments. There, people shared what they truly miss most about being a kid.
Life Moved Slower
“Being oblivious to the march of time.”
“Summer used to feel like it lasted forever, and I miss that. You could not even begin to imagine how long it stretched out in front of you.”
“All of your buddies would be a little bit taller when you returned to school. And because summer lasts forever, they would all have slightly distinct looks and a variety of stories to tell.”

Ignorance Was Bliss
“What I miss the most from my childhood is the innocence. I remember being carefree and not having a worry in the world.”
“I would spend hours outside playing with my friends, and we would just laugh and have fun. Now, as an adult, I have so many responsibilities and worries. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those carefree days.”
“Not worrying about anything. Going to the market with my mom and being gifted a new Matchbox 75 car. And afterward, eating a burger.”
A Sense Of Wonder
“And having so much to learn. There is still a lot to learn, but it used to be so effortless to find cool things and learn about them. Like learning about magnets, electromagnets, and generators. How are you going to top that as an adult?”
“Stuff being completely brand new all the time. You can still seek out novelty, but it’s a lot harder to come across.”
“And, when you find it, it is often reminiscent of other things you have seen before.”
“That feeling of experiencing something totally unfamiliar is a lot harder to come across as you gain more life experience.”
Money Did Not Matter
“How cheap things were back then. We could have a whole school holiday and use maybe twenty dollars at most over that time. Going to the movies was ten dollars with popcorn, a drink, and ice cream.”
“Feeling like money just… happened.”
“Not having to pay bills or taxes.”
And All Of The Simple Pleasures
“Playing street hockey all day, then hide and seek or spotlight at night.”
“Spending summers reading.”
“School trips. Everything felt different on those mornings in a way that I cannot put into words.”
“Riding bikes with my friends.”
“The happy meal toys.”
Other Things Included…
Not feeling so self-conscious about the way your body looks, having a lot of hope for the future, and, of course, no back pain.
Plus, you could spend unlimited time with family members, enjoy Saturday morning cartoons, have sleepovers, and never run out of energy.
Can you relate? What do you miss the most about being a kid? Is it a specific period of time, an adventure, a general feeling of happiness, or something else?
