By now, turkey has become synonymous with Thanksgiving. The bird is a classic main course for Thanksgiving dinner, but just because it’s tradition doesn’t mean you have to have it every year. Eventually, you’re bound to get tired of seeing turkey on the table.
If you’re ready to skip out on the turkey this year, check out this incredible recipe for honey-baked ham with a pineapple brown sugar glaze by Erika Ervin (@realcooking_with_queen) instead!
Erika’s video on TikTok breaks down each step to show you how to make this delectable alternative main course.
Ingredients:
-Eight or nine pounds of a fully cooked and spiraled ham
-1/3 cup of honey
-1/2 cup of pineapple juice
-1/2 cup of brown sugar
TikTok; pictured above is Erika’s honey-baked ham
-1/2 cup of sugar
-1/4 teaspoon of seasoned salt
-1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
-1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
-1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
-1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves
-1/2 teaspoon of Allspice
Directions:
First, you’re going to use an already fully cooked spiral ham. Erika got hers from Aldi. Start by preheating the oven based on the cooking instructions on the package.
Then, mix some honey with pineapple juice in a bowl. Erika used fresh-squeezed pineapple juice since that’s what she had on hand, but canned pineapple juice works just fine too.
Next, pour the pineapple and honey mixture over the ham. Make sure to get in between the slices and on top to cover it thoroughly. Put the ham in the oven to reheat it.
For the sugar glaze, you’ll need to mix together cloves, seasoned salt, brown sugar, and regular sugar in a bowl. Once that is done, set it aside.
After the ham is finished warming up, remove it from the oven and pour out the cooked juices from the ham into a separate pot. Then, add in any remaining pineapple juice. This will be the base of the glaze.
Also, add in half of the sugar and spice mixture. Place it on the stove and wait for it to come to a boil. Use the other half of the sugar and spice mixture to coat the ham with. Broil it in the oven until the sugars have caramelized. Once it starts boiling, turn it down and let it simmer for twenty minutes.
Take the ham out and let the glaze cool for fifteen minutes. Then, pour it over the ham and enjoy!
Turkey, who? Your ham will be the highlight of the meal.
