It’s no secret that being a bridesmaid can be super expensive, especially if the bride expects you to pay for your own dress and participate in a lavish ceremony.

One woman recently spent a lot of money to be a bridesmaid in her brother’s wedding, but then her sister-in-law kicked her out of the bridal party. Now, she’s considering not attending the wedding at all.

She’s 26 and has a brother named Tom, who’s 10 years older than her. She and Tom never had a very close relationship, mostly due to their age gap. When she was old enough to bond with him, Tom had already left their childhood home.

Despite that, Tom’s fiancée Sarah asked her to be a bridesmaid in their upcoming wedding.

“I figured I was only asked as a courtesy since I’m her soon-to-be sister-in-law, but I still took it seriously,” she said.

“I have been a bridesmaid for the last two years. Just a few weeks ago, I managed to save up to buy the $800 bridesmaid dress. Overall in the last two years, between group outings to parties, dinners, lunches, clothes, etc., I spent thousands of dollars.”

Despite spending a lot of money, she got very close with other girls in the bridal party and began getting excited for the wedding.

Then, a few days ago, Sarah told her she was kicking her out of her bridal party so her brother’s wife, Becky, could take her place.

“It broke my heart a little, but it’s her wedding, and it’s not my place to tell her how to run it, so I said it was fine,” she explained.

“Yesterday, I went to my brother’s house to pick up the bridesmaid’s dress and was going to see if I could return it since it was within the time frame. Sarah was completely appalled and said that Becky was going to wear it since she and I are the same size.”

She told Sarah that Becky could wear the bridesmaid dress she bought, but someone would have to repay her the $800.

Sarah told her that Becky couldn’t afford to buy the dress, so she should let her wear it, and then she could have it after the wedding.

She explained that since she’ll never wear the bridesmaid dress after the wedding, she needs to return it. After arguing with Sarah back and forth, she took the dress and left Tom’s house.

Sarah and Tom have been reaching out to her with really lame attempts to compromise. They said she could be an “assistant flower girl,” but that offer offended her. Then, they told her Becky could give her around $250 for the dress. She said no to that too.

She eventually returned the bridesmaid dress to the shop and got a full refund.

After all the drama that’s gone down, she hardly even wants to attend her brother’s wedding.

The other day, one of her coworkers offered her a spare plane ticket to Miami for half-price.

“I would have to pay for half the hotel, and I can go hang out with her in Florida,” she added.

“The only downside is that I’ll be in Florida for the week of my brother’s wedding.”

Now, she’s considering partying in Miami instead of attending Tom’s wedding.

Should she go to Miami or grin and bear it at her brother’s wedding?
