Three months ago, this woman had a baby. It’s her and her husband’s first child, a daughter, and they won’t have any more children.

After having her daughter, she has begun to despise her mother-in-law, 56, because she’s been giving her unwarranted thoughts on her parenting.

According to her mother-in-law, she shouldn’t rush over and pick up her daughter whenever she cries because her daughter is just testing her, warning her that she’ll one day wish she’d let her daughter cry it out when her daughter is stuck to her like glue. Her husband’s mother told her this one week after her daughter was born.

She disregarded all of this and picked up her daughter, which angered her mother-in-law, who shook her head as she watched her refuse to listen to her.

Then, her husband’s mother began giving them baby clothes for her daughter, but they were boys’ clothing.

“They were dark blue and dark red outfits that said stuff like ‘Daddy’s Little Dude’ or had trucks all over it,” she said.

“When I commented on it, I was given a snarky, ‘She doesn’t know what she’s wearing, so I don’t see why you care. Seems like a weird thing to be bothered by. It’s free clothes; you should be thankful.'”

The strange thing about this is that these clothes weren’t thrifted or from other babies within the family that her mother-in-law was passing down to them.

These clothes were brand new, so her husband’s mother purposely bought clothing that was obviously more appropriate for boys.

Her mother-in-law’s rude comments continued as she claimed that her daughter didn’t look anything like her but instead looked like her husband.

This was a bizarre remark considering the fact that she’s a redhead with blue eyes, her daughter’s hair is strawberry blonde, and she has blue eyes, but her husband has brown eyes, and his hair is black.

“If the baby starts fussing because she’s hungry (I’m nursing), she will take the baby and pass her to my husband, saying, ‘She just needs Daddy.’ She then proceeds to act put off by the fact that my husband almost immediately passes her to me so I can nurse her. She says I should start pumping so ‘Daddy can bond,'” she explained.

She knows that her daughter adores her husband, even when she is the one nursing her. She washes her hands before she holds her daughter, and every time she does this, her mother-in-law rolls her eyes in annoyance, accusing her of being a “helicopter mom.”

Understandably, she’s had enough of her mother’s unhelpful comments and rude behavior. She doesn’t want to be around someone who is so petty.

When she expressed to her husband how bothered she was with his mother, he acknowledged that he could see where she was coming from, but he also stated that it’s his mother and she isn’t harming anyone with her remarks.

In his view, all his mother is doing is angering her, but he asked his mother to calm down and keep her unwanted perspectives to herself.

Every Christmas and for birthdays, her husband’s grandma gives everyone gift cards because she lives abroad.

So, she had a $50 gift card from Christmas to use, and she gave it to her husband so that he could use it to purchase a play seat for their daughter.

Her mother-in-law wanted to accompany him to buy it, so he let her come with him, and they bought the play seat a week ago.

“My mother-in-law came here two days ago and said, ‘How does the baby like the seat that her daddy bought for her?’ I knew it didn’t really matter, but I was irritated and said, ‘I bought it for her. It was my money.’ Well, she goes, ‘You’re not working, so it’s Daddy’s money, actually. And he went to get it for her, so…'” she shared.

This was the last straw for her. She snapped and told her mother-in-law to leave and not return until she was able to respect her and no longer act like a brat.

Upon reflection, she felt like she went overboard and was too harsh, and she told her mother-in-law that she was sorry for calling her names. However, she doubled down on not allowing her in their house for the time being.

After the ordeal, her husband was annoyed with her and was furious that she made his mother leave.

While he agreed that his mother was being awful and was the person in the wrong, he thought that making her leave and not allowing her to come over was taking it too far.

What advice would you give her?
