Divorce is supposed to mark the end of a toxic cycle, but sometimes the mess doesn't stop just because the marriage no longer exists.
After splitting from his ex-wife for cheating, he thought things had finally stabilized...until she announced she was marrying her affair partner and, in the same breath, confessed she still loved him!
What should have been a simple co-parenting exchange turned into tears, declarations, and a reminder that her chaos is far from behind him.
This man and his ex-wife got divorced three years ago, and they have a son together. Their divorce was pretty much a scorched-earth separation, and looking back, he says their marriage had more miserable moments than positive ones, so that was telling.
While he was deployed overseas, he found out that his wife was consistently cheating on him, and that's what ultimately led to his decision to leave her.
His ex-wife wasted no time moving in with her side piece as soon as he forced her out of his house. It appeared that his ex-wife was thrilled with her new man.
Recently, while exchanging their son, his ex-wife stated that she's getting married to her affair partner this weekend.
"I told her congrats and that was awesome news, but she instantly started crying and then told me she still loves me and that I was supposed to be her forever," he explained.
Small side note here: he's a better person than I am, because if my former spouse cheated on me, I would not be congratulating them on marrying their affair partner! I mean, would you?!

Anyway, what he found bizarre is that his ex-wife blurted out that she had told her husband she still has feelings for him, and this man apparently doesn't fault her for it.
Later on that evening, everything got even stranger.
"When I went to pick my son up later that night, she was waiting outside for me already and blocked my path to the door again, crying, and repeatedly telling me how she loves me, and can't see herself marrying anyone else, and that it's not fair," he added.
"I could possibly see how this would be hurtful if I [were] the one getting married and she had these feelings, but they have been together for almost 3 years, and none of this has ever come up."
"Based [on] how she was acting, I'm really worried that she is about to have a complete breakdown now, and I worry about my son going over there this weekend."
I don't think his ex's drama and breakdown is his responsibility. She chose to cheat, she chose to remarry, and now she's choosing to unravel right before walking down the aisle.
His only job is making sure their son has stability while she sorts out her mess. And seriously, what kind of person sobs about still being in love with their ex on the eve of their wedding?
Even wilder to me is that her groom knows and apparently doesn't care. That's not a love story, it's a train wreck, and he's smart to keep himself completely out of it.
What advice do you have for him?
