Imagine being in a position where you’re actually praying your husband cheated on you. That is the bizarre, heartbreaking reality of this story.

After losing the only man she’s ever loved, her high school sweetheart, she got a Facebook message that should have destroyed her.

Instead, it gave her a shred of hope she never expected: a chance that her husband left a piece of himself behind, even if it was through a one-night stand during their only time apart.

This woman’s husband passed away in October of last year after he was hit by a drunk driver. Her husband was her whole world as well as her best friend.

They had been together since the age of 15, so she hadn’t really known a life that didn’t have him right by her side. However, from May to three weeks prior to his passing, they did undergo a separation.

Despite that, they did every single thing together except live under the same roof. They reconciled in the weeks before his death and everything was pretty amazing…until she got that fateful phone call.

Then, in November, she received a message on Facebook from a woman who revealed she was pregnant with her husband’s child.

“I didn’t know how to respond, but we ended up meeting up. She said that she and my husband had a one-night stand,” she explained.

“Now, if she isn’t lying and the baby is his, then that would mean we weren’t separated at the time, and for some reason, I have hope it is his. Now that sounds insane, but we separated because he had a midlife crisis after I was done trying to have a baby.”

“We had been trying for 18 years, and I had done 4 rounds of fertility treatments, and after my 4th miscarriage, I couldn’t do it anymore. He wanted to do one more round, but mentally, I couldn’t do another round.”

That kicked off her husband’s crisis; they argued nonstop, and figured out a little break would be the healthiest option for their marriage.

What’s crazy is that she realizes that if the baby really is his, that means one of his dreams ended up coming true, even if he’s not around to witness it.

“Then there’s a mini him out there changing the world just like we dreamed of. He can’t come back, but his legacy can still move forward,” she said.

She ended up meeting with a lawyer, who said her husband’s estate isn’t something the baby is entitled to at all. But she thinks that it would be cruel not to help the baby out, so she’s going to set up a trust fund to help with college and give the baby some of her husband’s family heirlooms.

She can admit it’s a hurtful situation for her to be in the middle of, but the baby is an innocent party who she doesn’t want to punish for mistakes their parents made.

She’s basically sitting on a pile of money, so she has more than enough to share with the baby. She is going to request a DNA test to confirm paternity, and she will be moving ahead with helping to set the baby up for the future if it is her husband’s.

The woman who said she slept with him gave her a very specific date when her husband was on a ski trip with his friends in Colorado. She does think that anyone could have pieced that together from his Facebook or Instagram accounts, as they are public.

“I asked his friends because they were on the trip with them, and they were very confused because apparently he didn’t even stay at the bar long and left with one of his friends,” she added.

“Then they made me cry because they went on about how much he used to talk about me and how much he loved me. I don’t think he did [cheated]. My husband hated cheaters, but I guess sometimes people hate them and still do it.”

“I didn’t want to be that person [who] said their husband would never when anybody is capable. I am still doing the DNA test under my attorney’s advice. It’s just to prove to the court, just in case she tries to take us to court for anything.”

She’s going to start therapy, and the baby will arrive in a week, so TBD on paternity. The woman doesn’t feel comfortable having a test done while the baby is in utero, which she understands, so her husband’s brother will provide DNA to use for the test after the baby is born.

While it did occur to me that this could be a scam, I think the chances are slim since the woman is agreeing to the DNA test. That seems far too elaborate to go to those lengths if there is the potential to be outed as a liar, right?
