This 30-year-old woman is a single mom to a daughter who is in the third grade. Approximately a month ago, her daughter started coming home from school completely famished.
Initially, she thought her daughter was simply growing, but her daughter confessed to her that she’d been giving half of her lunch away to her classmate.
Her daughter says that this other little girl never has enough food to eat. Her classmate will have one piece of fruit or a tiny bag of crackers, and that’s it.
“My daughter felt bad and started sharing her sandwiches and snacks every day. I did not want to make a scene or go to the teacher yet, so I just started packing 2 full lunches,” she explained.
“One for my girl, and one [for] her classmate. I’ve been doing this for three weeks. My daughter said her classmate was so happy and even started doing better in class because she was not cranky from hunger anymore.”
The school ended up figuring out what she was doing after checking her daughter’s bag one day. There’s a policy in the school that kids cannot share food to avoid allergic reactions.
Her daughter’s teacher called up the mom of the girl she’s been sending extra food to school for to inform her of what had been going on.
Yesterday, while picking her daughter up from school, that starving little girl’s mom ambushed her, and she was furious. This woman yelled at her for interfering with her kid and said she didn’t have the right to take pity on her daughter.
This mom argued that her kid isn’t food-deprived; they just stick to a super strict, clean diet. This mom then snapped that she was poisoning her child by allowing her to eat sugar and bread, since that’s processed.

“I told her that if her kid is begging for my daughter’s ham sandwiches, she clearly is not full. She called me a pretentious jerk and said I made her look like a bad mother in front of the school,” she continued.
“Now the school is saying I might get a warning for breaking the no-sharing rule. My sister says I should have minded my own business and just told the teacher from day one instead of playing hero. I feel like I was just helping a hungry kid.”
She’s left feeling heartbroken that this little girl is going back to starving, and her mom doesn’t care about it. Do you think she was wrong?
She was incredibly kind to send in extra lunches for her daughter’s classmate, and I’m ashamed of that poor kid’s mom for not realizing her kid is going hungry.
I wouldn’t hesitate to call CPS on this little girl’s mom because the diet she’s forcing her kid to stick to sounds crazy and unhealthy.
And in regard to the school trying to get her in trouble, well, they’re mandatory reporters, and I’m shocked they’re not worried about the little girl.
She should confront them about that and ask if they’re planning on calling CPS too, instead of trying to get her in trouble for caring.
Finally, she should contact the school board and fill them in, because none of this is ok; it’s not right that the school is fine with letting this girl starve, and it’s not right that they’re punishing her for doing something about it.
