If your partner made their niece their entire meaning to life, would you feel jealous or displaced? Or would you happily help them raise the kid?
Four years ago, this 26-year-old woman met her 34-year-old fiancé, and he was open about having an unusually close bond with his niece and his sister.
Her fiancé and his sister had terrible parents, and that led them to rely on one another, because they literally had nobody else. Their family was just the two of them.
Before she came into the picture, her fiancé's sister got pregnant and gave birth to a little girl. Her fiancé's sister's baby daddy doesn't live close by, but he does visit once in a blue moon and pays child support.
Her fiancé was upfront with her all along about how he's been actively helping to raise his niece, so this wasn't a surprise to her or anything like that. But the problem is that her fiancé is way too involved with his niece, and it's upsetting to her.
"Currently, our life revolves around his niece. She is invited to every single vacation. We only do family activities like Disney trips," she explained.
"We have her every day after school until her mom picks her up after her work (so after her dinner time). We spend the weekend doing stuff that's appropriate for a kid with my [fiancé's] sister (not a childless couple). Both his niece and her mom are good people, but I'm tired of this."
"[My fiancé] puts money in her college fund, pays all her expenses (and his sister gladly accepts and even calls to ask for money). I asked him what will happen when we get married and have our own kids?"
Her fiancé said everything will still be the same, because his sister and his niece are everything to him. She's so sick of helping her fiancé raise his niece, and she just wants to be free of this burden.

Her fiancé feels that she's being a jerk for changing her mind about wanting to help. She hasn't been on one single romantic vacation or date without her fiancé's niece coming along too.
She and her fiancé are wildly incompatible. Her fiancé is telling her that he's a package deal with his niece, and if that's no longer something she can live with, they should absolutely not get married.
It's better for them to break up now, and it's wrong for her to be upset with him, because he was honest up front about his involvement in his niece's life.
I'm just confused about why she waited four years to finally tell her fiancé she doesn't love constantly being around his niece.
What advice do you have for her?
