Mixing business with your personal life is bound to get tricky. So how would you feel if one of your clients asked you out? Would you entertain the idea, or shut it down for fear of ruining your job?
This woman has spent the last eight years working at a daycare center with kids. One family in particular she has known for six years in total.
Four years ago, this family had a horrible tragedy hit them. The dad's wife was diagnosed with cancer right after the pandemic hit, and then got pregnant.
"She chose to keep the baby, which also meant that she couldn’t do chemotherapy. Thus, his son was born, but the cancer had then spread to her brain, and she died when the baby was only a month old," she explained.
"I’ve been helping the dad out, and honestly, I feel like his son is almost my son. Now his son is three and still goes to our daycare, and his 7-year-old daughter loves me, as I [do] them."
"I keep my distance, though, and stay professional, but then a few months ago, he started texting me out of the blue, talking about his family dynamics and personal stuff. I saw it coming, sure enough, he asked me out to dinner. I’m glad he’s trying to move on and wants to date, just don’t date your babysitter!"
It made her feel super awkward. While the dad is a wonderful father and amazing man, her son is still in her care, which makes him her client.
She doesn't want anything to happen that could potentially risk her job. So although she feels terrible for this dad and his kids, she kindly let him down.
She said she was not interested in a romantic relationship with him, but ever since, he's been very curt with her and acting unusually.

"I don’t want this to ruin the relationship I have with the children, but I think it ultimately might. My coworkers keep joking that if he dates me, he doesn’t have to pay for babysitting anymore. Stop being weird and let things go back to normal!" she exclaimed.
The dad is handling things in the wrong way by treating her like the bad guy for declining his invitation for a date. He should have respected her wishes, and it's sad he didn't do that.
However, I don't think this will impact the bond she has with his kids, because I highly doubt he's going to tell them that she said no to going out with him.
They're so little that it just won't be an appropriate conversation to have with them about their daycare provider, so I think she's worrying for nothing.
She should ignore the dad's behavior and keep on taking care of his kids without letting it negatively impact her. Who cares if he's hurt?
What advice do you have for her?
