Western Digital has unveiled the world’s first 1TB SDXC card at Photokina 2016. Remember when a 64MB SD card seemed gigantic? Well SanDisk unveiled the world’s first 64MB SD card in 2000. And back at Photokina 2014, they unveiled the 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Memory Card.
And if you’re wondering why anyone would need a 1TB SD card, thanks to 4K video, 360 video, and VR, movie and photo files now gobble up incredible amounts of memory. With all of that said, it’s crazy when you consider that this prototype SD card has more memory then a typical laptop nowadays.
The SanDisk branded card is just a prototype for now, but we imagine that it will hit store shelves soon enough.
