Her Boyfriend Asked Her To Donate A Piece Of Her Liver To Him, And She Said No

A woman is currently dating her 31-year-old boyfriend, and prior to meeting him, her boyfriend really did have a problem with binge drinking.
Back when she did end up meeting her boyfriend, he told her that he had spent several years sober, though he was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver due to his previous drinking problem.
Right now, her boyfriend’s medical issue is only getting worse, and he recently went in for some testing that came back pretty bad.
On top of that, her boyfriend was diagnosed with an embolism in one of his lungs, which is giving him reduced function in that lung.
He also has been diagnosed with diabetes as well.
Her boyfriend saw a liver specialist not that long ago who told her boyfriend that he’s most likely going to need a liver transplant sometime soon.
After that appointment, her boyfriend came home really upset, which she understands.
“He then not seriously but kind of hopefully let me know that I should donate part of my liver to him if we matched,” she explained.
“I told him no and I was kind of shocked he would ask. We’ve been dating for 8 months and while I like him I’m not convinced he’s the one yet.”

“He has a lot of qualities I like but some that drive me up the wall including having poor personal hygiene and not looking after his diet and eating mostly fast food(which probably caused the diabetes).”
Her boyfriend was pretty shocked that she said no to donating a piece of her liver to him, and he quickly tried to backtrack and claim he was only “joking” when he asked her.
She’s pretty certain her boyfriend was serious about the donation though, and she let her boyfriend know that she wouldn’t ever do something like that unless her spouse, her sibling, or one of her parents was the one in need.
“Then he joked then he could just ask me to marry him to get my liver and I told him now that he’s mentioned it, it would make any marriage proposal seem disingenuous so I wouldn’t get matched to see if I was a candidate beforehand,” she said.
Her boyfriend then pointed out that having a liver transplant isn’t really that huge of a deal and if she agreed to the procedure, she would have a big piece of her liver left.
“I told him it doesn’t matter that the liver regenerates I wouldn’t even think about doing it for just a bf,” she continued.
“He got offended and said he would do it for me if the situation was reversed and I said the problem is the situation isn’t reversed so I’m not convinced he would just because he’s spouting platitudes.”
Her boyfriend became infuriated, and he left their place. He still has yet to return, and she’s wondering if she was a jerk over her dose of honesty about donating her liver.
