She Really Wants To Give Her Nephew Away To Foster Care, But She’s Worried This Makes Her Heartless

A 32-year-old woman is worried that she’s totally heartless after realizing that she really wants to give her nephew away to social services.

Recently, her sister-in-law passed away after a car accident, and her brother already passed away years before that.

Now, her 12-year-old nephew is an orphan, but she doesn’t want to take him in and be his legal guardian, even though he’s currently living with her.

She has always planned on living her life without children, mostly because she is autistic and also not really into building a family of her own.

“I’ve never been good around children and due to my autism looking after myself has been hassle enough so I know that I’d make an awful parent/guardian, especially when it comes to the emotional side of things,” she explained.

“Ever since the accident I have been looking after my nephew and without exaggeration, it has been absolutely draining on me.”

“My entire life and my routine have been derailed because of this, which I know isn’t my nephew’s fault, but it’s been putting me under an amount of stress that I can’t handle.”

Sadly, she’s the only single person in their family who could even potentially provide for her nephew.

Her mom and dad are close to their 80s, so it’s not realistic for them to take on her nephew.

She’s currently waiting for custody of her nephew to be “sorted out” and when it does come to that, she wants to say no to taking him.

If and when she does say no, her nephew will be put into foster care.

“I know it isn’t great or the best outcome for him but I’m dedicated to giving him over to them,” she said.

“They’ll be able to find people who can better care for him and who want to care for him (as bad as that sounds).”

So far, she has not revealed to her nephew that she will be placing him in foster care, but she has shared this information with her friends and her parents.

Her loved ones think that she’s a horrible human being for wanting to give up her nephew. She knew that nobody would be supportive of her decision, but she really underestimated how angry her loved ones are.

Her mom and dad are saying they will never speak to her again if she goes through with putting her nephew in foster care, while her friends are insisting they’re no longer going to be her friends if she does this.

“Obviously, I’m aware that my nephew wants to stay with family and that he could suffer from going into the foster system – but I can’t take care of him in the way he needs,” she continued.

She pointed out that she really cannot afford to go out and find a larger apartment to accommodate her and her nephew, and she also doesn’t really have the money to provide for him properly.

“But, still, people are calling me heartless and are making out that I’m some monster for this,” she concluded.

Do you think she’s heartless, or do you think she’s trying to do what’s best here?
