This twenty-three-year-old woman has been dating her boyfriend, Hank, for about five years, and they have a three-year-old son, Bobby, together.

But Hank had a dog named Ladybird before they ever got together. And even though she is really allergic to dogs, she knew how much her boyfriend loved Ladybird and decided to tough it out.

“I make do because I know Ladybird means a lot to him, and I have grown to love her as if I had her my whole life,” she said.

Recently, though, despite both of them working full-time jobs and evenly splitting up housework, she has noticed that Hank treats their dog better than their son Bobby.

For example, after getting home from work, Hank normally runs straight to Ladybird to play and cuddle. However, Hank never stops to check in on how Bobby is doing– like if he has eaten or if he had a bad day at daycare– first.

And for a while, she just assumed that Hank figured since his son was with his mother, everything had to be good. But, the seeming lack of care still subconsciously bugged her.

Just last month, though, one incident totally put her over the top. Hank had off one day, and Bobby did not go into daycare since he had the sniffles. So, she left Bobby with Hank and went to work.

What she realized when she got home was downright terrifying, though. Hank was just watching TV, Bobby was nowhere to be found, and when she asked Hank where their son was, he just nonchalantly said, “he’s around here somewhere.”

And to make matters worse, the backdoor was wide open. She nearly called the police in a panic before a neighbor thankfully stepped in.

Apparently, Bobby had made it all the way to her neighbor’s house, climbed through the doggy door, and attempted to get into the neighbor’s daughter’s room to play.

All the while, Hank never even noticed Bobby was missing until she got home, and the neighbor ultimately brought their son home.

“Obviously, I was freaked out but thankful he went to a ‘safe place.’ I also yelled at Hank for not watching him, but he told me to calm down because it all worked out fine.”

And her boyfriend’s totally lax response understandably annoyed her even more. So, she waited a few days for things to settle down before deciding to prove an important point.

On Hank’s next day off, she snuck home early, grabbed Ladybird, and dropped the dog off at the same neighbor’s house. Then, she made a “big show” about coming into the house and purposefully left the door wide open.

At first, Hank did not notice anything was missing or wrong. But after he called out Ladybird’s name and got no response, she played it cool until he noticed the open back door.

And he completely freaked out. He claimed that she was not careful enough and that Ladybird could get killed out there before literally running outside with no shirt or shoes on and screaming his dog’s name.

But, while Hank was outside making a whole fuss, she texted her neighbor to walk Ladybird over. And afterward, Hank spotted Ladybird, took the dog inside, and began berating her.

Then, he told her that Ladybird could have been stolen or killed.

So, she took that opportunity to ask how he thought she felt when she could not find their actual son. And shockingly, he seemingly could not have cared less.

“He said it did not compare, that Bobby was just at the neighbor’s, and that we live in a ‘safe’ neighborhood, so nothing would have happened. And I honestly did not have anything to say to that,” she recalled.

Instead, she actually packed a bag for herself and Bobby and went to go stay in a hotel for a little while. Still, Hank never apologized and just kept calling her childish.

So now, she really believes that her boyfriend is not taking Bobby’s care or well-being seriously enough. Nonetheless, her friends have had mixed reactions to the “test” she pulled on Hank.

In turn, she’s now not so sure if “testing” Hank’s emotional response to Ladybird “going missing” was the wrong way to prove her point.

Can you believe that Hank said the situations “could not compare?” How would you have reacted if you were in her shoes? Do you think she had a right to “test” her boyfriend in the first place?
