He Went On A Tech-Free Weekend Trip With His Friend, But His Wife Wouldn’t Stop Contacting Him, So He Turned His Phone Off And Never Knew That His Sister-In-Law Got Into A Car Accident

So, his wife was really distraught that he essentially ignored her the entire time he was away; meanwhile, she “needed him.”

After he apologized that his wife’s sister had been in an accident, though, he decided to just be honest with his wife. He essentially told her that it was not his fault that she had “forced his hand” into cutting off all means of communication.

But, his wife was not satisfied with that response at all. Instead, she actually went to stay at her own friend’s house before he arrived home that Monday evening and has still been fuming ever since.

And now, with his wife still furious at him, he has been left wondering if turning off his phone and missing an actual emergency during his tech-free weekend actually makes him a jerk or not.

Is it normal for spouses to want to unplug and get away for a weekend? Do you think that his wife “cried wolf” too many times? Did he have the right to turn his phone off after his boundaries were crossed, or should a line of communication always be open in a marriage? If you were in his shoes, how would you reconcile this situation?
