Her Roommate Offered Her Leftovers From A Fancy Restaurant, But She Later Received A Venmo Request For The Price Of The Meal, And She Thought Being Expected To Pay Was Ridiculous

Understandably, she was really confused after seeing that and decided to head to her roommate’s room to ask why they were charging her for the food that was given to her. And afterward, her roommate’s reasoning totally caught her off guard.

“[My roommate] said it was assumed because of all the conversations regarding the costs and that she had even ‘double-checked’ with me. That’s what ‘are you sure’ meant, I guess,” she recalled.

So, since she essentially ate about half of the dish her roommate had at the restaurant, she was charged half of the price. Despite that, though, she was honestly really annoyed.

She ended up telling her roommate that she would never have accepted the leftovers if she knew she was going to be charged for them. However, her roommate flipped the situation on her– claiming that she should never have accepted the food if she did not plan on paying for it since she “knew how expensive it was.”

Anyway, she ultimately decided to just pay her roommate half of what had been Venmo requested; in other words, about 25 percent of the meal’s actual cost. That way, she could get her roommate off her back and move on from the argument.

To this day, though, she and her roommate have never really squashed the issue. In fact, her roommate still believes that she should have paid in full, and she still thinks that was completely unnecessary.

So now, she has been left wondering if not paying her roommate for the full price of the leftovers was actually a jerky thing to do or not.

If your roommate offered you leftovers, would you think you were expected to pay for them? Should her roommate have been upfront about wanting to be reimbursed for the food? Who do you agree with in this situation? If you were in her shoes, how would you squash the issue?
