He Canceled His Wife’s Birthday Dinner After She Said His Son’s Handmade Birthday Gift Looked “Ridiculous” And Told Him Not To Bring It To The Celebration
During his previous marriage, this 36-year-old man had a son who is now 15-years-old. But, his late wife sadly passed away, and he wound up getting remarried to his current wife about two years ago.
Now, he claims that his wife has a pretty good relationship with his son for the most part– even though the pair do encounter some disagreements from time to time.
And for context, his son actually has a background in the arts and woodworking. As a young boy, his son used to enjoy helping his father– his son’s grandfather– with woodworking.
So, his son eventually learned how to make beautiful handmade wooden items, and now, the teen gives the items as gifts to loved ones.
Anyway, it was recently his wife’s birthday, so he planned a dinner party at a pretty fancy restaurant. And the day right before the party, his wife wound up cleaning his son’s room and ultimately found what the teen got as a gift for her birthday.
It was apparently a handmade wooden tree with his name, his son’s name, and his wife’s name on it.
After finding it, his wife then talked to his son about the present. But what she said was pretty hurtful.
She claimed that while the tree was a very sweet gift, she didn’t want his son to bring the present to the restaurant or give it to her at dinner.
“Why? No idea,” he admitted.

His son ultimately told him about this conversation, and after learning what had happened, he decided to call his wife out on it.
Then, while speaking to him directly, his wife flat out admitted that she thought his son’s tree gift “looked ridiculous.”
She also claimed that she just did not want to be seen with the tree in the “prestigious restaurant” in front of all their guests.
He was appalled to hear that from his wife, and he wound up going off on her.
First, he claimed that his wife should have been ashamed of herself for telling her son that when the teen was just trying to be thoughtful and sincere.
His wife did not get that, though, and said she was not embarrassed or ashamed by his woodwork.
“And she even said she’ll take the gift, but she ‘simply’ didn’t want it to be seen there,” he recalled.
At that point, though, he was done with the whole situation and told his wife she didn’t need to worry about that– because he had just decided to cancel the entire birthday dinner.
If you couldn’t have guessed, she was not happy about that and proceeded to freak out on him– claiming that he was being really unreasonable for just canceling her birthday dinner “over such a trivial thing.”
He was done arguing, though, and tried to drop the topic. Still, his wife just kept freaking out about how he ruined her birthday and caused her to lose respect for both himself and his promises.
His son wound up just keeping the tree gift since his wife actually left the house two days ago due to the fight. And ever since then, his mother-in-law has been berating him for canceling the dinner and calling him a total jerk for treating his wife like this.
So, he is quite torn about the whole situation.
“It could be that it was not a big deal, and I overreacted, but my son was feeling hurt by her request,” he vented.
In turn, he’s been left wondering whether canceling his wife’s birthday party because of how she reacted to his son’s gift was the wrong thing to do or not.
