One woman is still left shocked after finding out her sister got married to the father of the girl whose been bullying their kids at school, especially since her sister can’t understand why their kids don’t want to be friends with this girl.

She and her sister are in their early 30s, each with a 10-year-old child. Her son is named Cole, and her niece’s name is Zoe.
Zoe’s father passed away when she was very young, so she started helping her sister more over the years. Subsequently, Cole and Zoe have a very close relationship.
Over the years, Cole and Zoe have mentioned a girl named Ruby who picks on other kids at their school.
She’s been mean to a kid in their friend group, has gotten in trouble for pouring water on other kids’ lunches, and once made fun of a little girl’s appearance, which made her cry to the point of getting sick.
About two years ago, she found out that her sister was dating someone, but she didn’t know many details about him until a year later.
Her sister then introduced everyone to her new boyfriend, who shockingly turned out to be Ruby’s father.
Her sister married him and became Ruby’s stepmother about four months later. Naturally, Zoe and Cole were not happy.

“My sister was aware of the issues with Ruby and the fact there were some long-standing bad feelings there,” she said.
“She was not deterred by this, and instead, she tried to pretend they were all new to each other and attempted to get Zoe and Cole to include Ruby in their play.”
Her sister wanted Zoe and Cole to turn their duo into a trio with Ruby, but Zoe told her mom that would never happen. Anytime Zoe said anything like that, her sister would punish her. Cole and Zoe have repeatedly expressed discomfort with being forced to play with Ruby, but her sister won’t listen.
Recently, her sister asked her to get more involved in getting all the kids to play and spend time with each other. Her sister said that Ruby needs to spend time with her new family members because she has no other extended family.
Her sister also mentioned Ruby is having a “rough time” in school. However, when she asked her sister to elaborate, she wouldn’t.
“I asked if her husband was getting calls about how Ruby treats other kids,” she recalled. “She didn’t deny it. I told her she can’t erase what Zoe and Cole think of Ruby, and she needs to accept that.”
Her sister thinks the kids are so young and have room to grow, so they should suddenly start fresh and become friends now. Although she agrees they have time to grow, she doesn’t think Zoe and Cole should be forced into liking someone who’s been mean to them.
Is she being too hard on Ruby, or should her sister stop trying to force a friendship between the kids?
