Giftcards
Sometimes, pleasing everyone in your family with the perfect Christmas gift can be a struggle.
There are some gracious family members who will act thrilled at whatever present you give them, while others will openly tell you how displeased they are.
One young woman decided to get gift cards for all her family members this Christmas after they sold the presents she got last year at a garage sale.
She’s 22 years old and used to love picking out Christmas gifts for her family members each year. She doesn’t come from a small family either, and every year she has to find something for her four siblings, her parents, her uncle, and now, her young niece and nephew.
She would spend about $50-100 on each person’s gift, and last year, she spent weeks leading up to Christmas day picking out ones that she thought each individual family member would like.
She was most excited about the gift she got her parents, which was a photo of their family with a meaningful quote on it.
However, when Christmas morning rolled around, her family acted less than grateful for the gifts she gave them.
Most of her family members stared blankly at her gifts and were not very thankful. Her parents’ present went unopened for a while, and when it finally was, they hardly looked at the photo and dismissively put it on a shelf.
“This really hurt my feelings, but I pretended everything was fine because it was Christmas,” she recalled.

“Well, a week later, we had a garage sale, and no surprise, the gifts I got my family were on sale. I was so annoyed they did that.”
Still hurt over last year’s garage sale, she decided she’d do things differently for the next Christmas. The following year, she decided to give everyone except her niece and nephew a gift card.
She figured it would be an easier way to give her family members a gift without wasting so many hours shopping for something personal.
Still, her family was upset about opening gift cards and asked why she didn’t buy any “proper gifts.”
When she told them about how she was still upset over the garage sale, they called her selfish and cheap. Unfortunately, her family was angry with her for the duration of the holiday season.
Was she being selfish for buying gift cards, or did she do the right thing considering what her family did with their gifts last year?
