Whenever this 27-year-old guy and his wife head out of town, they always hire their same dog and house sitter named Danielle, who is in her thirties.

They first hired Danielle via a dog-sitting app over one year ago. And since then, they have continued using her since she is reportedly wonderful with their dogs and always goes above and beyond when working for him and his wife.

“One of the things she does is try and always have our house spotless when we come home. We’ve tried to tell her that she doesn’t need to do all that, but she always insists,” he explained.

That’s why he and his wife always make sure to leave Danielle a generous tip. After all, she helps give them such peace of mind when they’re away, knowing that their dogs and home are well-cared for.

But, they only ever met Danielle in person once, when she first visited their home prior to dog sitting for the first time. And since then, they have only ever communicated via text message.

Regardless, the dog sitter still really enjoys texting his wife– because apparently, they have similar interests, such as interior design.

Danielle even has her own interior design business, too, which is why she often texts his wife about her work and suggests projects that could be completed in his house.

However, he detailed how the text conversations are pretty one-sided. His wife doesn’t respond as often simply because she is not a great texter and also doesn’t have a very close relationship with Danielle.

Plus, he and his wife would always decline any interior design offers from the dog sitter since they had only recently tied the knot and, after planning a wedding and honeymoon, did not have a ton of spare cash lying around.

In addition to texting his wife about interior design, he revealed that Danielle is also a very open person who also shares intimate personal details.

For instance, Danielle talks about her anxiety and stress. Plus, right before they left for their honeymoon vacation, Danielle shared how her fiancé had just cheated on her– leaving her in a tough financial spot between rent and bills.

“We try and be supportive,” he said. “But since we don’t really have a close relationship, there’s not much we can do besides send a supportive text message.”

Regardless, due to Danielle’s worsening financial situation, he and his wife were told that the dog sitting rate was going to be raised. Still, since Danielle’s rate was already extremely reasonable, they didn’t have a problem with paying her more.

Plus, they even offered to pay Danielle ahead of time before she did her latest dog-sitting gig– when they went on their two-week honeymoon.

But Danielle wound up declining that offer and claimed she preferred to get paid as usual– with 50% upfront and 50% following the honeymoon.

So, they obliged, and he and his wife left for their honeymoon to Europe recently. Unfortunately, their trip did get off to a later start– about half a week later than planned– but they still paid Danielle for the entire two weeks.

And at the beginning of their trip, everything seemed to be going great. Their dog sitter sent them a bunch of photos with their dogs. Danielle also kept texting his wife separately about other things.

At one point, Danielle then asked if she would be able to stage their home to conduct some photoshoots for her small business. And in an effort to be as supportive as possible, his wife said that would be completely fine.

Still, throughout the whole trip, Danielle kept texting his wife about interior design stuff. But his wife did not always answer since, first of all, they were enjoying their honeymoon. Second, his wife also did not have international cell service.

Regardless, towards the end of the honeymoon, Danielle sent another text detailing how she had broken her foot– meaning she wouldn’t be able to complete as much around the house.

“So we tried our best to reassure her that she already does so much and not to worry about it,” he recalled.

By the time he and his wife actually returned home from their honeymoon, though, they were met with a major surprise.

Following a long 16-hour day of traveling, they walked into their house and realized that the guest bathroom had been completely renovated without their knowledge!

In fact, Danielle had put up new wallpaper, painted all of the cabinets, replaced the light fixtures, installed new bathroom handles, and purchased a new bathroom rug and shower curtain.

Obviously, he and his wife were shell-shocked since they had no clue Danielle was renovating while they were away. Plus, his wife was extra upset since she did not like the design at all and coveted the guest bathroom as her own space to take baths and do her makeup.

“To be clear, we never gave permission or even knew Danielle would be renovating our bathroom,” he clarified.

“But we decided to deal with it the next day because we were so tired and just wanted to rest.”

Rather than letting him and his wife settle in, though, Danielle would not stop texting them and asking what they thought of the bathroom. And as the texts continued to come in, they could see their dog sitter becoming increasingly anxious.

That’s why they eventually responded and claimed to appreciate all of the hard work. However, they also admitted that the bathroom was just not their style and pointed out how renovating without their knowledge crossed a boundary.

After they sent that text, Danielle reportedly became really apologetic immediately. Plus, Danielle promised she would go to their house, take down everything, return it, and return the bathroom to the way it was.

Still, the dog sitter just kept sending one text after another, and they were seriously exhausted by this point. So, he and his wife asked if they could just talk to Danielle the following day and claimed they could all figure everything out together.

Danielle just did not get the hint, however, and continued blowing up their phones. Within those texts, she revealed that she spent a whopping $3,000 on the renovations– which took her 11 days of work.

The dog sitter also claimed to be having the worst month of her life and asked that he and his wife just pay for the dog sitting before they go their separate ways– because apparently, Danielle had just gotten evicted and claimed to be very poor.

“We became increasingly concerned about how unhinged she was becoming, but we decided to just send her the money she was owed. And we continued to tell Danielle we could figure everything out together,” he detailed.

But aside from the payment, he and his wife were not sure whether or not they should also send their usual tip. And being that they were so exhausted, they just decided to wait until the following morning to figure that out.

Once Danielle received her dog-sitting payment without a tip, however, she actually became very hostile and started blowing up their phones again. And that time, the messages were seriously rude.

Danielle proceeded to leave them voice messages in which she called them out for “being rich” and “having a house and being able to go on vacations.” Then, she demanded that they allow her to bring a friend when she picked up the renovation materials so that way they wouldn’t “leer over” Danielle.

So, to end this madness, he and his wife just agreed on a time for Danielle to come over, and their dog sitter finally stopped messaging them– claiming to be tired of getting taken advantage of and saying she never wanted to speak to them again.

They later found a sweet handwritten note that Danielle had left inside their home, obviously before the huge blow-up over text. Within the note, Danielle claimed to adore his wife, said they were both wonderful and talked about how appreciative she was to watch their dogs.

Plus, online, he and his wife realized that Danielle had posted photos of their house, as well as a video of the guest bathroom renovation, on her Instagram account.

So, as you can probably imagine, he and his wife were so confused.

“I am flabbergasted by this situation and never expected it coming home from my honeymoon. I don’t even know what Danielle expected from us because, regardless of if we liked the renovation, we don’t even have renovation money,” he vented.

Nonetheless, he still wants the best for Danielle– which is why he’s been left wondering how to handle this situation and figure out what he really owes his dogsitter.

Can you imagine returning home from your honeymoon and finding out that your dogsitter had renovated without your permission? Why do you think Danielle did that? How do you suggest he and his wife deal with this? Do they “owe” Danielle anything if she never got their approval for the renovations?
