This 19-year-old girl has a 26-year-old coworker who is a mother to a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old boy.

They work in a food service establishment where, the majority of the time, they are in the back preparing the food before bringing it out to the customers at the front counter.

Unfortunately, her coworker can’t find a daycare or babysitter most of the time, so she brings her children to work with her, and they stay in the back.

Her coworker’s children have a lot of energy, so the coworker brings a tablet and a portable crib to keep them contained and occupied while everyone is working.

However, the 4-year-old son is already old enough to have figured out how to climb in and out of the crib whenever he chooses.

His little brother tries to mimic his actions but only ends up falling face-first onto the floor while trying to climb out.

Her coworker uses her phone quite a lot during the workday, and whenever the mother wants to step outside to take a phone call, her coworker asks her if she can keep an eye on the children for a few minutes. Most of the time, these phone calls end up being 15-30 minutes at a time.

“Usually, I have no problem doing so if the store is empty since I’m usually in the back anyway. But when we’re in rush hour, and she does this, it’s literally impossible for me to do so,” she explained.

One day, her coworker went outside to talk to her boyfriend on the phone and asked if she could watch the children.

But right after her coworker stepped out, a family of five came in ready to order their food, so she had to tell the kids to stay calm and put on a video for them in hopes of keeping them entertained while she went to the front counter.

“As I’m taking their order, I hear a loud thump. A second later, I heard a scream from the smaller child. I apologize to the family and excuse myself. When I go to check on the kids, the baby is again on the floor on his stomach, staring at me, crying,” she said.

After she made sure that he was okay, she picked him up and carried him to the counter with her. Suddenly, her coworker asked what had happened. After hearing the explanation, her coworker became angry and told her she should have been watching them.

At this point, one of the customers joined in the conversation and explained how they thought the child was hers and not her coworker’s. The customer told her coworker that the responsibility for the children was no one else’s but their mother’s.

Later on, her coworker was talking about how rude that customer was to say something like that, but she said that what the customer said was right. Before she knew it, her coworker was super angry and started calling her a bunch of mean names.

“Now she complained about me to our boss, and I’m being lectured about teamwork and empathy. I just simply don’t understand when this one-time favor turned into part of my job description,” she stated.

Do you think that she was rude in agreeing with what the customer said? Do you think it is wrong of her coworker to constantly ask her to watch the kids?
