“Favorite Things Parties” Are The Perfect Way To Give And Receive Gifts That You Know And Swear By: Here’s How To Host One

If you love exchanging gifts with friends and family over the holidays but are getting bored of the same secret Santa and white elephant routines, you should try the latest trending party style, a “favorite things party!”
These parties began trending during the holidays last year, and they’re still making a powerful impact when it comes to spending quality time with friends and family.
So how does a favorite things party work?
Well, it has to do with gifting your friends and family items you love or consider your “favorites.” For instance, a moisturizer you swear by or a candle you’re obsessed with.
Everyone in attendance must bring their favorite item(s) and then exchange them for a different item that a guest picked.
If you’re considering throwing a favorite things party this holiday season or any time of year, here are some tips to get you started.
First, you’ll want to think of how many people you want to invite, as the gift exchange rules can be adjusted based on how many guests there are. Then have some fun with your invitations and send them out, leaving your guests enough time to shop for their items before the party!
Now it’s time to choose how you’ll want to approach gift giving, as there are several ways to lay out the rules of a favorite things party. I prefer the “3 favorite things” approach. Here’s how it works:
Start by setting a strict budget for each item based on what your guests would be comfortable with. For instance, you can tell your guests that the item they pick out must be $25 or less.

Everyone invited must bring three of their favorite items that fall within the budget. For instance, if you have a candle that you love that’s $25 or under, buy three of them and bring them to the party.
Then, everyone can arrange their items on a table so that there are identical rows with each item.
To make things more fun, each person can go up to the front of the room and “present” their item, explaining why they love it and why they think their friends would like it too.
Then, it’s time to put everyone’s names on pieces of paper and pull them out of a bowl or put them in an online randomizer to call out a guest one by one in three rounds. Once a guest’s name is called, they can choose an item they’d like before the next person is called.
This happens in three rounds, meaning each person will end up with three new items!
It’s a fun concept because you arrive with three of the same thing and then leave with three new items. Plus, whenever you use them, you’ll think of how they’re your loved ones’ favorite treat.
Since the gift-giving during this party is so laid back, you can have even more fun by setting a theme. For instance, TikTok user Ilana Dunn (@ilana.dunn) decided to combine her favorite things party with “board night,” where each guest brought a different tasty snack board or platter to nibble from.
So, if you’re looking for a fun way to switch up gift-giving this year, try hosting a favorite things party!
You’ll make memories, end up with fun gifts, and will be surrounded by loved ones. What more could you ask for?
