This man and his girlfriend currently live together, but he does about 90% of the cooking in their home.

This isn’t because his girlfriend is a bad cook, though. Instead, it’s just more convenient for him to cook since he works from home– allowing him to have dinner ready for his girlfriend once she gets off work. Plus, when they are both at home, they usually cook together.

However, next Friday, he booked himself a day off from work and intends to take it easy.

“I plan to relax and enjoy a new video game that I’m really excited about that comes out that day,” he said.

But it appears that his girlfriend wasn’t really on board with him taking a day off from cooking, too.

For context, she typically plans out their meals in advance. That way, they know what ingredients to buy at the grocery store and can mitigate any food being wasted.

So, after he took off from work next Friday, she pointed out how, since he wouldn’t be working, he could prepare a bigger meal.

“That takes a bit longer as I won’t be tired from finishing work,” he added.

That wasn’t what he had in mind, though, and he tried to tell his girlfriend that he just planned to get takeout. He took a day off to relax, not spend time cooking.

Yet, his girlfriend just didn’t get that and asked if he had even considered her when making that decision.

“And I just said I thought she would be happy with takeout, but if not, she can always cook herself something,” he recalled.

Well, his girlfriend wound up claiming that he should be able to set aside one hour in his day to cook her dinner. However, he refused and stood his ground– reiterating that his day off was supposed to be his day to relax.

Still, his girlfriend kept going and moved on to their evening plans next Friday– asking what she was supposed to do while he was playing his new game all night.

He pointed out how she could always watch him play or engage in any of her other hobbies– such as reading, watching TV, going out with friends, or playing on her Nintendo Switch.

“I said it’s one night and that I rarely actually have a day to myself and rarely sit and play video games when she’s home, so it’s not a big deal,” he vented.

Regardless, his girlfriend still thinks he should be okay with cooking for her next Friday and accused him of being unreasonable. So now, with his girlfriend so upset with him, he’s wondering if refusing to cook on his day off is really unreasonable or not.

Does it seem like his girlfriend is being unreasonable? Can you understand why he doesn’t want to cook on his day off? How should he handle this situation?
