Her Cousin Tried To One-Up Her By Planning Their Wedding On The Same Date As Hers, So She Lied About Being Pregnant And Her Cousin Followed Suit Again
In the past, this woman and her cousin were attached at the hip.
Each summer, she would go to visit her cousin, while her cousin would visit her each winter.
When they were 21, they stopped communicating because she and her cousin’s boyfriend didn’t like each other.
Three years later, she and her cousin reconciled.
Last November, her fiancé proposed. She was obviously thrilled and broke the news to her family.
“I also told my cousin and her boyfriend when they came over for Thanksgiving, and she seemed kind of upset,” she said.
At the time, she was so distracted by her excitement at just getting engaged, so she didn’t focus too much on her cousin’s strange reaction to the news. Her cousin didn’t say anything to her when she left after Thanksgiving dinner.
Three weeks went by, and she found out from her mother (who heard it directly from her cousin) that her cousin was now engaged.
She didn’t have a problem with her cousin also being engaged, but she started to grow concerned when it seemed like her cousin was trying to plan the wedding in a hurry.

Her cousin’s family was constantly advising her to take her time with wedding planning, but her cousin would get irritated when she heard the advice. Her cousin also spent more money than she should have on wedding expenses.
“Eventually, she gave up, and I didn’t hear from her for a while. My mom recently told me she’s getting married on the exact day she and my fiancé decided on (Halloween next year),” she explained.
Understandably, this bothered her, so she reached out to her cousin to ask her what was up.
When she questioned her cousin about why she purposely chose the same wedding date as she did, she told her cousin that it was strange, but her cousin said that she didn’t do that for any particular reason.
Throughout their whole lives, her cousin always had a habit of trying to compete with her and one-up her. Over the years, she tried not to let it get to her. Whenever she’d vent about it, her mother would tell her that they were in a better financial position than her cousin’s family.
Since she loved hanging out with her cousin so much, she always did her best to put her cousin’s behavior out of her mind.
“But it was never enough. My family thinks I’m being ridiculous and is saying she’s not trying to outdo me, so I told her I was pregnant. And wouldn’t you know it, two weeks later, she announced she was pregnant,” she shared.
Now, she feels exhausted from the drama, and she doesn’t know how to handle it from here.
Her family keeps advising her to pay no attention to her cousin and still attend her cousin’s wedding, but she doesn’t want to.
She’s upset by her cousin’s actions, and her cousin knows this but ignores her feelings and tells her that they should go shopping for her wedding together.
However, she is sick of the drama and is tired of dealing with her cousin.
While she acknowledges that she shouldn’t have lied about being pregnant, what her cousin did afterward proved that she was right about her cousin always attempting to one-up her, and she wanted her family to see that she had been right all along about her cousin.
Going forward, she doesn’t know whether or not she should keep her cousin in her life, and she can’t decide if she should attend her cousin’s wedding.
