While She Was Home Alone, She Heard A Knock On Her Door And Thought It Was Her Boyfriend, But It Was Really A Creepy Man Who Left Her Feeling Seriously Unsettled

In 2018, this woman was 25 and living with her boyfriend, now husband, in the town they’d grown up in.
Their hometown is a pretty small city with a lot of citizens in poverty and suffering from substance abuse issues.
Plus, there isn’t too much to do for fun. One Saturday night, her boyfriend was hanging out at one of his friend’s houses, which was 20 minutes away, two towns over.
He let her know that he would be home at about 9 p.m. She and her boyfriend were living in a large home that had been converted into a duplex.
Her cousin was living in the apartment downstairs. Because her cousin was pretty loud, they could always tell when her cousin was or wasn’t home.
On this night, in particular, she knew her cousin wasn’t home.
“The way our street was situated, the backs of the houses on my street and the parallel street all faced a narrow alley, and the driveways were (mostly) only accessible this way.
The downstairs unit had a front porch with a door and a side door. Our upstairs unit had a back door, and it was at the top of an outside set of wooden stairs,” she said.
While her boyfriend was gone, she was hanging out and watching TV. At 8:30 p.m., she heard someone walk up their stairs and knock on their door.

She assumed her boyfriend came home early from his friend’s house because it was normal for that to happen sometimes if he was tired of playing video games after a while.
On nights like this, her boyfriend would knock on the door because it was easier for her to just let him in rather than fiddling with his keys when it was dark outside.
“So, I got up and opened the door to someone who was not my boyfriend. It was a pretty thin man, wearing jeans that were too big and a hoodie. He had about four teeth and was teetering back and forth. I was so shocked, considering I was positive it was my boyfriend coming home,” she explained.
The man asked if he could use her phone, and she could see that at the bottom of the stairs, there was an SUV similar to a Ford Explorer idling in the alley, and she saw someone sitting in the driver’s seat.
Terrified, she told him, “‘Yeah, hold on.'” After that, she closed the door and locked it.
Understandably, she was stunned because when she answered the door, she just assumed it was her boyfriend and not a random stranger.
Once she locked the door, she hid out of sight from all of the windows and stayed in one spot, waiting for him and the other person in the car to leave.
“Something was just telling me this was not okay. After a few minutes, I hear him start walking down the stairs. I go over to the door and see the car drive away down the alley,” she shared.
Once they were gone, she called her boyfriend to tell him what happened. He assured her that he would come home right away, saying that he already had been planning to come home.
Twenty minutes later, her boyfriend got back home, and she relaxed a little more. She also felt like she had overreacted a bit and wondered if she should have allowed the man to use her phone.
After the incident, she thought about it for several days, and when she went over the details, it didn’t seem normal.
Since it was 2018 when this happened, it seemed odd that neither the man at her door nor the person in the car had a phone.
It was clear that they weren’t having issues with their vehicle, so she didn’t understand what kind of emergency they were experiencing in which they needed to borrow a complete stranger’s phone.
She also pointed out that it seemed suspicious that the man hadn’t tried knocking on her cousin’s door downstairs first.
They had to go out of their way to drive down the alleyway and to the back of the house so that he could come upstairs to her door.
Also, since her boyfriend was gone at the time, their only vehicle was not in the driveway, so it seems strange that their apartment was the one he chose to go to.
When they left, she didn’t see them stop at anyone else’s house. Unfortunately, the battery of their security camera was dead when this happened. To this day, she has no idea what these two people were up to.
What would you have done if you were in her shoes?
