Get into the Halloween spirit with a creepy campfire tale about the Appalachian Mountains! TikToker Sydney (@bryansm91) is sharing a story from one of her followers named Cassie, who lives in the United Kingdom.
To this day, Cassie is unable to leave her home and has been diagnosed with mental illnesses because of her experience in the Appalachian Mountains.
Cassie and her boyfriend took a trip to Nashville, Tennessee, and were having a great time. They still had a week of vacation left, so they decided to go camping in the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee.
They loaded up all their gear in the car and found a trail to stop at. They planned to hike up the trail and look for a place to camp.
The scenery was beautiful, and they were taking it all in. Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her. She and her boyfriend whipped around, but they didn't see anyone.
They kept going and eventually stopped to take a break. As they were sitting there, something started to feel off. They continued hearing footsteps somewhere in the mountains.
Her boyfriend pointed out that there could be homeless people living out there, trying to find a logical explanation for the noises. But the whole time they were walking and finding a place to camp, she felt like they were being watched and followed.
Finally, they set up camp for the night and went into their tent. Cassie woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of footsteps around the tent.
When she checked her phone, it was 3:03 a.m. Thinking it was an animal, her boyfriend unzipped the tent. They both saw a tall, dark, and hunched figure with long arms. Its fingers dragged across the ground, and it had white, hazy eyes.

They quickly zipped the tent back up. Cassie started screaming and crying hysterically. They stayed huddled in the tent, brimming with panic and fear, until the sun came up. That was when the footsteps went away. They bolted off to the car and left immediately.
"Once they got back to the U.K., that was only the beginning of Cassie's nightmare, as her life for the past 10 years has been absolutely ruined because of her deep depression that she fell into because of this incident," said Sydney.
Eventually, Cassie and her boyfriend broke up. She is unable to leave her house, experiences terrible nightmares, and can only fall asleep after 3:03 a.m. She has been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even schizophrenia at one point.
She was put on medication for schizophrenia because of the things she would see in her dreams and visions, but the pills didn't work, so she quit taking them.
Several TikTok users shared their theories about what Cassie might've seen in the comments section.
"If it had antlers, Wendigo, if not, Rake. That kind of thing can be terrifying for someone who hasn't encountered the paranormal before and/or has never been to Appalachia before," commented one user.
"I live in Alaska, and I saw the exact thing she described while out hiking in Bear Tooth Mountain. We stopped to take a break and set up a tent, we were inside and heard like this groaning sound and just barely unzipped the tent window and saw this thing. After waiting it out a bit, we left, and I will never forget those eyes," wrote another.
"Sounds like she saw a bear with extreme mange. A bear just wasting away with disease and hunger, acting strange around humans, on its hind legs, and almost standing upright, but hunched over, is probably what they saw, and their brain couldn't make sense of it at night," suggested a third.
@bryansm91 Replying to @Phoebe Stanley Whatever Cassie saw that night in the Appalachian mountains has followed her mentally for the last 10 years. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. #appalachianmountains #appalachia #spookystorytime
